Nah, I disagree. If lots of weight were the solution my wife would be the champion of centerstand deployment. I am certain that she cannot do it though. She can barely carry her feed sack to the trough...

If someone were to search for LMGTFY in the Forum, you will find this has been a somewhat frequently used tool. Unlike some of the other 'help' we have offered people, this one doesn't draw blood as often.
T'wasn't out to be a jerk or pounce or anything - merely wanted to show our admittedly new forumite how a search tool works is all.

Besides, the first couple of times I put my FJR on the center stand (after spending 10+ years on bikes without one), I beat the living **** outta my Bishop I was so happy.
It's always about masturbation with you ain't it?

Well, this is a thread about gettin' it up. drumroll

I didn't mention it in my appraisal of the two bikes (ST1300 & FJR), but the FJR is the first bike in my last 3 that I can "pop" up on the center stand. The ST is still a bear for me, and my CBX was so tough I used a piece of 3/4" plywood under the rear tire before attempting a center stand deployment. I'm about 5-11, 145.

I have no problem, mine pops right up, real easy. There is some small bit of technique that makes it much easier, the motion isn't straight up, it is up and slightly back. At a few FJR gatherings I have tried getting other FJRs up on the center stand and it quickly became obvious that some are easier than others. I dunno if it is tire height, center stand lubrication or how close the moon is to earth but some FJRs are indeed (slightly) more difficult. Over the past few years I have been working on body building which directly contributes to getting it up. Hover your mouse pointer over the words with dashed lines. FJR Viagra to ensure that you can get it up every time.

If this thread continues to drift like this we will smoke out Riona.

If sex with 3 people is called a threesome, and sex with 2 people is a twosome, I understand why they call you handsome!

I bet tire height is at least some of the difference. As cotyjim pointed out, 3/4" is a big difference. The first fraction of an inch is the most difficult. The higher the bike gets, the more mechanical advantage you have.

Side note:

Before buying my 2013 I wanted to check one out, and even an older model was useful. The dealer in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, had a 2008 model on the floor, so I went over to sit on it. I asked the lady if it was ok to put it on the center stand so I could sit in riding position. She said that was ok and position herself to the right of the bike -- presumably to try to catch it if this grey-head old coot managed to drop it. I pushed the stand down, rocked it toward her 'til I felt both feet on the ground, and pulled up hard on the hand rail (I hadn't found the handle yet) while pushing down hard on the center stand. It popped up so quickly it slid backward about 6" on their tile floor. I think she was just short of hyperventilation. ;)

Why do people always assume the rider's weight has anything to do with the center stand? It absolutely does not, as I have done it all along without ever using my weight to left the bike.

What IS required is some technique and not being a *****. If you have enough strength to stand, you should have enough to lift the bike. Post #2 or 3 spelled it out correctly. If you still can't lift the bike, put down your double skinny upsidedown caramel latte and go to the goddammed gym.

OR get your wife to do it.

LMAO!! 'fish tried but ..

By golly this place is turning into a hoot! The never ending pointless threads must be driving the gods about nutz...

Good to see the dream has come true.

time to hijack this mutt...so what would be a good coating for a ratty looking centerstand-something that might stay on for awhile??

Often late at night I'll surf the NEPRT thread - always good for a chuckle, often thinking "why the hell has he/she raised that issue" or "what an idiot!". Today I stopped chuckling as I've just read there is a grab handle under the seat! I went to my bike, lifted the dust cover and low and behold there it was!

Grab handles must therefore be for sissy's as I've been using the bit at the back where the top box would sit! Only took me 4 months to find the grab handle and I use the centre stand all the time - doh!

Never, ever, underestimate the power of the NEPRT thread!!

RH, could you possibly give a warning before posting stuff such as this? I am now mopping up the floor, from the beer-spray that shot out of my mouth and nose, while reading it.
Thank you.

It's all about technique and can be hard to explain.

In my mind, you need to practice - but get a big guy to "spot" you while you practice. Then practice some more.

My FJR is a real PITA to get on the center stand - but I've lowered the bike an inch........

I'm 5'9" and 200 pounds, 57 years old. I can lay over our Gold Wing for a rear tire change, and then lift it back onto the wheels - all by myself.... after I watched a 70 year old man do it. Twice. And had someone "spot" me for the first time or two. Now that I know how, and have the confidence - then it's easy.

It'll make you a bit nervous is you're not used to it.
