At this stage in the game I am unable to commit to being part of arranging CFO for 2006....

So... I figure I better put this out here... 'cause, if "we" think we need to do it again... "we" need someone new to step-up.

(And preferably sooner than later to have best choice of locations and dates.)

The lack of response definitely indicates that people respect the amount of work that goes into these events. And some people just aren't the organized type, that will get things done when they need to get done. Oh, and then there is the perpetual bitching that takes place for one reason or another.

I for one not willing to put myself through the hassle of organizing it...although I don't think that I would mind doing some Wisconsin county road reconnaisance for potential routes ; )

However, these things don't happen by themselves...so make no mistake about it: if no one steps up to organize it...IT WILL NOT HAPPEN NEXT YEAR.

I would put my $ .02 in and say if someone does organize it...might be a good idea to shoot for september...a little cooler...wouldn't conflict with the national FJR owner's meeting that is supposed to occur next July per Warchild's post.

CFO-06 ????? Will it or will it not happen?

My $0.02

I'd go earlier... if I was to organize it again... Just to have it done earlier in the summer

(It rather spend more winterish time working on it than summerish time)

La Crosse was tough to find space at back in Jan (?) when I booked this... That's why I made sure to throw this out there now... There is ussually one type of event or another going on in that town every weekend in the summer (literally) this was one of the few weekends there wasn't.

Also, I'm more than willing to give whoever works on this an earfull of advice... As I had a million things I'd thought about how I would have done differently as I went along...

-bvw...

To have the '06 CFO held at the same location would be okay with me-good roads in any direction.

I agree with Valetz, make it earlier in the summer, OR possibly towards fall.

Valetz, what would you have done differently?

Oh Man....

Gimme a couple days, I'll make a list and post it...

Take a look at Sparta, WI as a possible alternate location - might be less traffic through the hotels in a town that's smaller. But still lots of twisty roads in easy reach.

Signing up to plan one of these is a tough commitment to make. It's hard for one guy to commit time resources for something almost a year away, not knowing if the time will be available then (**** happens). I would be far less opposed to a planning committee of maybe 3-4 guys, in fact I would commit to it if others do the same. It divides the work making it easier and leaves options if one or two people have something come up. Just a thought.

I would be willing to do it, but for a couple problems. No web space, and I suxxors at web page type stuff. Health. I am up and down. Though I would not anticipate a problem, it's just when I think this way I go down for the count. When I hit 427 on my glucose meter at CFO at tomnaps crash scene, I was just about to the point of shoving him over in the ambulance, and it can take a few days to recover from this. But overall, I have the time, the will, and the desire to carry it through. But I will not, under any circumstances, be able to do it alone, not if a successful outcome is desired. Thats the deal breaker.

I would also be leaning towrds having it in the Fall, in or around Tomahawk, Wi. Many reasons for this, details to follow.

Radman, Tomahawk in the fall, isn't that H-D territory at that time??

I think Windjammer has a great idea. In addition to Brian's list of things he would do differently, maybe he could also list the basic task's that made CFO 05' work so well. A committee of maybe 4-5 " volunteers could divy up these tasks and communicate with each weekly (or as often as possible) to check progress, and discuss "open" items that still need to be accomplished.

The fact that the inaugural CFO was so well organized(thanks Brian and Derek) and appeared to have few if any glitches, should make next year's event that much easier to pull off.

The Honda Sport Touring events I used to go to were held at the Spring Green hotel in Spring Green, WI. The group took the entire hotel over and was usually held the 3rd week of May. Because the hotel didn't have dining or bar facilties, we had to drive about 2 miles for the Saturday dinner and "awards" ceremony. People had the option to camp on site if so desired.

Well that's my $.02 worth. Since it's supposed to get up to 111 degrees here in Chicago today, I think I am going to take a quick morning ride on the Blu-Bomber!!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Tomahawk is in beautiful country-loggers heaven. In fall, time it right, and you'd swear LSD was back in fashion. It has small town flavor, big town amenities. It has some of the prettiest letter roads around, the UP NE, Superior North, Ashland and the Apostle Islands NW, ride routes abound. The climate is temperate, early fall some of the finest rising weather I have encountered. Centrally located (although North of just about everyone), but hilly, curvy, and relatively un-populated. My best friend lives there, so a local rep to grease some wheels. Hence my idea.

a couple problems. No web space, and I suxxors at web page type stuff.
Ain't no thang either, IMO. We've got this place to communicate with the group as a whole, and email and phone would be sufficient for comm within a planning group. Webpage is neat and has its uses, but I don't see it as a bare necessity. Personally, I don't care where the thing takes place, as long as it's not Kansas.

Sounds like WC is putting together a national FJR meet for end of July, 2006. So CFO should not conflict with that.

If we can get 4 guys, we can break the planning into 4 areas:

1. Lodging (include camping option if desired) and prizes.

2. Ride planning/maps

3. Beer (including N/A type for those of us who prefer it)

4. Cheese and Brats :haha:

My $0.02...

1) Logistics - hotel, dinner, roster, $$

2) Door Prizes - (Ask Derek it's a big job)

3) Schwag - T-Shirts & other printed crap

4) Rides..?

You could combine these as needed...

This may be reading a little far into your beer comment, but.....

I'd keep Alcohol and Organizers totally seperate, I considered spending $$ on drink tickets, etc. but you already are potentially assuming some risk as the organizer if an attendee gets stupid...

This may be reading a little far into your beer comment
Yeah, the beer and cheese comments were just a little light WI humor - your list would probably work much better than mine for practical purposes!

2) Door Prizes - (Ask Derek it's a big job)
Door prizes are neat, but for me personally they are not that important. I'm not saying they should be eliminated, but a big job could be made smaller by having less focus on door prizes and stuff. I can always buy a scratch off at a gas stop if I need to win something! To me, these things are about good riding, good food, and some social time in the evening to do a little bench riding, compare war stories, etc.
So that's just my opinion....hopefully others will chime in with theirs!

I agree with Windjammer, the door prizes were a great bonus for the event but not a necessity.

An event shirt would be cool, though.

Just don't plan it for the last week in July, 2006-wouldn't want a conflict with the national meet.

I am real new to the FJR1300, having just picked mine up two days ago, but I am interested in helping.

Can you tell me this: How many people attended the last one?

Where was it?

Can you show me the schedule?

How many people do you think might attend in 2006?

Thanks, I look forward to helping.
