OM...you would love this area...
Mister Wheaton, I'm going to very seriously consider heading out for this gathering. My very first ride report was about my ride from CA to Green Bay back in 2007. I fell in love with the place. Some of the areas between (Nebraska) were less than thrilling, but the Wisconsin countryside was really great. And I've never met so many nice people. Were it not for the winters, I'd consider moving there. It made that big of an impression on me.

I'll have to research La Crosse.

All of Sconnies back roads have letter designations-"doin' the alphabet" is a Minnesota tradition going way back. While not quite mountainous, it's the closest thing to the Sierra's found for many miles around these parts.

everybody loves alphabet soup :yahoo:

I can help you find a less-boring route through NE, not "Wisconsin" great, but better than I-80; and maybe guide you through some interesting Iowa county roads.

HWY 20 in NE is a little more interesting. Depending on your route through CO or WY. There will be another route thread as time gets closer, I can already tell :)

The "alphabet" roads can make for a fun ride. A couple of years ago a friend in LaCrosse challenged me to ride from Suamico (Green Bay) to Goose Island Campground (LaCrosse/Stoddard) using only alphabet roads...he thought he'd be generous and allow me 50 miles of numbered roads for the ride. We also established before the ride that any alphabet road that ran concurrently with a numbered road counted as a alphabet road.

Normally the ride, or at least the route we normally take is approximately 215 miles from our house to the campground. The day we did the alphabet ride we rode 330 miles...didn't need his 50 mile gift either, only rode 14 miles on numbered roads :yahoo: . My friend was fairly impressed that I actually took his challenge, and my wife and I had great day of riding in Wisconsin. We got t-shirts that only Wisconsin, and maybe our friends in MN, would understand...front says "Numbered Roads Bad", back says "Lettered Roads Good."

I will do my darndest to attend this event. You guys aren't gonna ride like bats outta hell all weekend, are ya?
Breadman,

To prevent that from occuring, you could always organize and lead a group ride.

Then you would know where to turn? <_<

oooohhhhhh, this might be to close to miss. A short hop across Lake Michigan and I am there. Depends on when EOM is though.
Chris
A fellow 'Troll" ... know your neck of the woods fairly well ... my wife and I both grew up in the Petoskey area. Still have some relatives there and get over there a couple times a year.

I be happy to show you a few fun roads between here (Green Bay) and LaCrosse if should happen to go up and through the Promised Land to get over this way. Of course you'd have do be willing to ride an extra 100 miles or so that day!

Am going to meet with Hotel on Nov 10. Will be finalizing the major details with them.

Then will work with our Web master to make appropriate additions to web site. I have a few forum members already speaking up to help with various aspects of gathering. Look for a formal announcement 2nd or 3rd week in Nov, and Web site updated with all information.

I'm really impressed with all the members who have spoken up and said they plan on coming. It shouldn't be very difficult at all to fill the block of rooms that we reserved. This is going to be awesome.

Might be doable! Still waiting for the dates(and location) of EOM though, once that is set I will know If can make this.

I am a definite, pretty much for sure, probably, looks that a way, participant. I think.

So count on me.... kinda.

some things in life never change... :)

That's about as definite a commitment I've heard you make there Skip. You sure you don't want to qualify that?

Its nice to see somebody who really knows what he want to do.

Sorry no information yet. The web guy has been very busy. I'm really busy with two jobs at the time. So things have gotten away from us. Information will be forth coming soon. Its only 9 more months away. I know its getting close.

Hmmmm...

According to my calculations, shipping my bike and flying myself to Minneapolis costs about the same a gas/hotels/food for the 2 night trip i'd take to get there but saves 4 days of flat boring riding (and vacation time.)

Would it be worth the trip??? :ermm:

I've been to the last 3 CFO's. This will be #4. They have all been great. Great roads and company. The roads in WI will be great sweepers and just a few technical twisties in a few areas. Not like the Mountains though as far as elevation . Look in the ride and images sections and you can see some of the pics and videos that some have taken in the area.

The first two CFO's have been in SW WI before. The last two were in the Black Hills. The majority decided to have it back there. I think it would be worth it if you plan on at least two to three days of riding. Have an equal amount of days on the fun things as the flat lands. At least I would think that way. Hope to see you there.
