Mick said that New Brunswick makes Kosovo look like a First World Country! Old Michael also stated that Fredericton, by comparison, can make Managua, Nicaragua appear to be one of the World's Ten Best Provincial Capitols! jes' sayin' what OM said!

Oh, Red Mountain Raconteur, that info should be updated.

I understand that many in NB now have indoor plumbing.
Maybe during CFR we should have a Talking With Americans session. Chance are we might be able to find one Californian who can find NB on a map.
:nono:

Um.....Old Michael is a Californicator who definitely can find NB on a map. He says that s**t to get a rise out of people. Looks like it worked
MEM: A Californicator like Hell. Los Californios routinely refer to him as a Manitoban!
 True enough, Papa.

I just emailed you ;)
All with a smile. I'm not sure I could name all of the US states. Maybe when I get electricity I can buy myself a TV and get familiar with the world. :)

Mi Hermano Bill, tus Papa Chuy Viejo will readily accept your drinking game challenge and I will immediately raise this bet and issue you a challenge:

I will happily name off, while drunk, the 14 Canadian capital cities (1 national, 10 provincial and 3 territorial) and you simply must name off the 32 Entitdades Federavitas de Mexico.

Since there are 32 Estados de Mexico, I will graciously give you the first three: Distrito Federal - Ciudad de Mexico, Hidalgo Estado - Pace hucha de Soto, and Tlaxcala Estado - Tlaxcala de Xicohtencatl. Now, you only must recite the other 29; and proper pronunciation, while drunk, will count in this contest!
While drunk I speak a cross between Polish & Ukranian so you have no chance of understanding me.

Given Americans celebrated lack of understanding of geography I have supplied the following answer to your question as some friendly Canadian assistance towards your education.

Outstanding work Bro' Bill, I'll buy you 16 drinks in Maritime Provinces this June. In 2012 I'll buy you 10 drinks in South Africa and 6 drinks in Swaziland! https://www.samatours.co.za/Pages/Train%20Tour/TrainTour.html

I've ridden una Motocicleta to every Mexican Estado/Capital except for the following: Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatan and Quintana Roo. Oddly, I have never ridden Yucatan Peninsula!

Muchas gracias!!

All aboard in 2012 for South Africa!!

Now, in a half-hearted attempt to get this topic back on track I offer the following:

It is rumoured that since New Brunswick is the only Canadian Province that is officially bilingual all further questions regarding CFR should be submitted in both Canadian offical languages.

Maybe during CFR we should have a Talking With Americans session. Chance are we might be able to find one Californian who can find NB on a map.
Wait a minute.

St. John?

NB has TWO towns?!!!

OFF TOPIC, sort of: On another thread, Fred W had mentioned his love of fly fishing for trout. I am also an avid fisherman, both salt and fresh water. I leave for a week in Mexico on 3/31 on my BMW GS and I already have a boat fishing excursion booked for Dorado, Barracuda and Bonita out of San Carlos, Sonora Estado, Mexico.

Are there any early morning (or late evening) fishing opportunites around Freddy Beach? Before/after the day rides. Since I will not have room to pack my fishing tackle on my FJR coming all the way from Arizona, I'd certainly consider the paid services of a local guide; who would set me up with gear and lead me to a "hot" fishing spot!

Don - there's world-class fly-fishing (salmon) but it's a couple of hours from Freddy. There's also bass fishing in the St John River but I don't know anything (much) about it. I'm on it though ! I'll email you when I find out .

Found this in my email after I posted here:

A woman goes into Bass Pro Shop to buy a rod and reel for her grandson's birthday. She doesn't know which one to get so she just grabs one and goes over to the counter.

A Bass Pro Shop associate is standing there wearing dark shades. She says, 'Excuse me, sir. Can you tell me anything about this rod and reel?'

He says, 'Ma'am, I'm completely blind; but if you'll drop it on the counter, I can tell you everything from the sound it makes.'

She doesn't believe him but drops it on the counter anyway.

He says, 'That's a six-foot Shakespeare graphite rod with a Zebco 404 reel and 10-LB. test line. It's a good all around combination and it's on sale this week for only $20..00.

She says, 'It's amazing that you can tell all that just by the sound of it dropping on the counter. I'll take it!' As she opens her purse, her credit card drops on the floor.

'Oh, that sounds like a Master Card,' he says.

She bends down to pick it up and accidentally farts. At first she is really embarrassed, but then realizes there is no way the blind clerk could tell it was she who tooted. Being blind, he wouldn't know that she was the only person around.

The man rings up the sale and says, 'That'll be $34.50 please.'

The woman is totally confused by this and asks, 'Didn't you tell me the rod and reel were on sale for $20.00? How did you get $34.50?'

He replies, 'Yes, Ma'am. The rod and reel is $20.00, but the Duck Call is $11.00 and the Bear Repellent is $3.50

You got me on that one, ME. I have to admit that I didn't know where that was going. ;)

As for the trout and salmon fishing north of the border, It is my understanding (and folks that are more up on this kind of thing please chime in) that in the prime fishing waters of our "Northern Neighbors" they have a habit of leasing the spots along the rivers to the highest bidders. PLus you'll need to have a monster big fly rod because the "streams" are like the rivers out west where you don't so much "cast" the fly as huck it out as fer' as ye can.

I do like fishin', as DonS alluded, but for the money and time available, I'd rather hang out with the other kids and sample the local "Mist of the Heather" or whatever the hell they call their whiskey up there, eh? :biggrinsmiley:

You're correct, Fred, in that the prime pools are (I believe) pretty much tied up. But that said, I think they ARE available through guides. I have a good friend who, rather than travel to Mexico and Europe with his wife, saves his vacation for fly fishing (and golf). Go figure

I was going to get the goods from Steve (and I'm sure he'd be happy to talk to Don about this; if Don wants the skinny on it, I'll hook them up on the phone) but I found this website. And, to cut right to the chase, click here

The salmon pools are 2-3 hours from Fredericton. Don MAY want to consider a whole separate vacation - to fish salmon

Yeah, exactly... Fishin' Guide$. They are just like Caddie$ for the prime golf courses.

I always kind'a figured that if you needed to pay someone else to show you how to do the "sport" that you are engaging in, you might want to take up something "less demanding" if you know what I mean...

I mean. I can crash my own murdercycle and I surely don't need no stinkin' guides to show me where X marks the impact point! :p

Does that French salmon taste any different?

Salmon fishing isn't an area where I nurtured any particular network of contacts. However, I may know someone who may know someone who may ....if you get my drift. I should find out Steve's scheme 'cuz he sure as heck isn't paying any guide.

You know what ? I eat(on an almost weekly basis  ) Atlantic farmed salmon. I've had Steve's freshly-caught salmon only once and I can't remember if I thought it tasted any differently or not! duh. I'm sure I thought it was special because Steve caught it ;)

On the New Brunswick fishing topic, here is the help I received in a Private Message from Old Michael:

Bust says he's got a 1/4 oz lure you can wrangle.
Phycst it for ya.

I'm sure that we will be way too busy riding and touring around to worry about catching fish.

Personally, I figure I can fish anytime anyway, and fishing is not a real good spectator sport.

Really wouldn't want to have my pillion sitting around waiting for me.

Brother Fred, Thanks for fixing that, both Old Michael and Bustanut joker have vivid imaginations!

Senorita Maria Elena, Thanks for your fishing information! As you know, Seth and DaddyDon will be in New Brunswick a full day before CFR actually starts. So we may establish our Sunday night stop near where We Stanley Boys will have our Monday morning fishing expedition. Having lived in Europe for two years and having gone fly fishing in New Zealand, as well as other worldwide locales: I was aware of the private fishing waters and the requirement of a guide in NB. The same situation existed in Bavaria, most of the streams were locked up with fishing rights dating back to The Middle Ages! The US Army leased some Bavarian sites, so we GI's could go fishing.
