I've got a rear tire that'll need replacing in the near future. I've got Diablos on now and the front is good for more miles. Any drawback to putting the Avon "Storm" AV56 on the back and then changing out the front at a later date? Can I expect more miles out of the Avon?

How many miles did you get out of the rear Diablo? Avon will likely exceed it.

That Diablo has about 5K on it. Mixing tire brands shouldn't matter, but don't know anything about the Storm. Wear data depends on how and where you ride. I've gotten 12K out of a tire and 3K out of a tire. Very subjective, indeed.

I'm eager to try the new Avon. In fact, I need to get the free set I won at WFO!!!!!! I'd better do that right now, while I'm thinking about it. Door prizes are awesome!

Currently I'm running a Pilot Road in front and Avon on the rear with no issues. I generally run through 2 rears to 1 front. Like was said before, everyone is different so don't base you decision to change out a tire on what anyone else is doing here.

Good luck and let us know what you think of the new Avon.

"Mixing" brands used to be a concern, but very few worry about it these days.

That being said, I think it's often poor economy to try and get those last miles out of the front tire. The handling just gets awful in the in the last 1/3 of tread on a front. And you may get the two tires out of sync so that you're having to change a front when the rear is still good. So I'll often change them both even if the front has some tread left.

What, you reuse those, too? Yuk!

(I somehow knew this thread would wake you up!)

He fell down. Maybe it was used rubbers that caused it? :yahoo:

My cruiser is just the opposite of the FJR. I go through 1.5 fronts to every rear tire....go figure.

I had mixed brands for a while until my rear wore out...no issues other than some awkward handling at first with one well rounder new one on the front and a back one that was starting to square off.
