Friends, I plan on getting SS brake lines in the future for my '06a. I have asked my dealer how much

he would charge to install them.He said that they have never done that job on an FJR & would do it

2 ways. One would be a flat rate of $250. OR they would do it at shop rate & if it took 3 hours or 8

hours it would be what ever. Does any other dealer out there have a handle on which way would be

the most economical ? I've contacted Speigler & they don't have a set for the '06 yet,but will in the near

future. I would guess that this install would be similar to an '05 ABS. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

It's really no different than changing the regular lines, which is normal scheduled maintenance and should be covered in their time book. That aside, in your position, I think I'd take the $250 deal. Myself, I'd install them and learn along the way, then spend $250 on a new farkle!

Believe me, if you're mostly all thumbs or otherwise are unsure of your ability to properly install these lines, take the $250 deal!!!

You may also note that installing the complete SS brake line kit on the 2006 model will be just a touch more involved than before, as you now also have the Linked Brake System on this bike. Which is not a big screaming deal; it's literally one or to additional lines to install, IIRC

If a dealer would do it for $250 I'd be surprised and I'd get it in writing. If I were you, I'd ride to Spiegler, have them make the lines and install them. They may need a donor bike for the new lines. Hell, for $250 I'll install the lines! ;)

Coming from a mechanical novice when it comes to wrenching bikes: It took me 3 hours to change the lines, pads and fluids - my first ever attempt at brakes of any kind (save my old Raleigh Record!). My dealer's rate is $80/hour. A skilled mechanic will prolly take half the time I did. You can do the math...
