Well, as I've been helping one of my boys get a bike this spring I hadn't had a chance to get the FJR out this year. I figured I would do a camping overnight up der in Visconsin, as supposedly there is a camping meet somewhere sometime in May that I will need to get ready for.
So here are some pictures of my ride through rural IL and WI for you to peruse...
Loaded down
How do you work this camera thingy?
Some cute little barnyard animals just on the outskirts of Orangeville, IL on Rock Grove road.
There's some chickens in there somewheres...
Overlook above Gays Mill, WI on WI 171
Looking down on WI 131 heading north from Gays Mill
The Mighty Mississippi at a bend in the river
Arrived at my camping destination of Wildcat Mtn State park on WI 33
I hear there is a twisty or two in the vicinity
Went out for some more riding after the tent was set up, headed east towards Hillsboro, WI.
Stopped at a road side marker near Hillsboro...
Some shots as the sun makes it's own trip down past the horizon
So here's the camping setup...
I found out from this little excursion that my shoulder and rib injuries (from my 2008 get off) are making it impossible to sleep on the foam pad I used to use with ease on my camping trips. Oh well, I will find something else to sleep on. It also got pretty chilly, 40 degrees in the tent, and I'll admit I was a bit too cavalier in my packing...I mean come on, this is just an overnight right? Well, between the shoulder and the cold temps I slept in fits during the night. I ended up putting on my riding gear to stay warm...that worked for staying warm...but not for sleeping as the armor was in the wrong places -for sleeping- and made for pressure spots. Anyways, I learned my lesson. The upside is that the stars were GREAT up there...haven't seen stars like that around Wheaton since I was a tyke. The owls were quite vocal, as well as the coyotes yipping at each other. It made for interesting music for this suburban boy. Would have been even better if it wasn't 4:30 am.
Here's a morning snapshot of the bike from inside the tent
Anyways, here are some miscellaneous photos from the ride home...
West of Boaz along WI 171
On 171 just a mile farther down the road
Along WI 60, next to the north bank of the Wisconsin River
FIN
