OK, I'm not all Mr. Sporty Bike or anything, but since I heard the term "Chicken Strips", I've been mindful of what my tires look like.

For the few that may not know, "Chicken Strips" refers to the unused edges of your tires, the implication that the larger (wider) they are, the more chicken you are to get your bike bent over.

There are the typical "square" tires on bikes used mostly for straight ahead riding or smokey burnouts. These usually have a rather large order of chicken strips, but then there are the tires you see that almost appear triangular. The edges are warn all the way and then some. A nicely feathered edge is either the sign of someone riding the corners pretty hard, or a poser squid who thinks it's cool to install race take-offs.

Since the FJR lives in both worlds of sport and touring, I'm just curious how the general population measures up.

Here's how mine are looking on my Avon Storms (round 2) after about 1.7k of commuting miles. Measured from the edge of the useable tread to about 1/2 way through the "border zone" between fresh rubber and scuffed.

F - 22 mm

R - 10mm

I love chicken strips with a nice BBQ dip

I never put much stock in chicken strips on tires. If you're leaned over and hanging off, you're trying to make the bike more vertical.

Can't find any on mine. Must of left them in the hotel room down at the BRP and The Gap. <_< Guess I'll just have to run back down and get them.

CDogman probably has chicken strips on both his tires. I dare you to even attempt to pass him in the urban hills of Utah.

:)

Save a tire, ride the bike more vertical and get your *** off the seat. You'll go faster and have chicken strips left over for lunch.

:)

Who really gives a big ****??? :D
It's apparent you don't Raymond. Ease up dood  The guys just fishin' to see how aggressive everyone rides I'll bet. Ta see if he "measures up"

Plus....

I **** out some Chicken Strips yesterday  .... Does that count

:jester:

P.S. My *** WAS off the seat and a knee dragger that day :exhappysmiley:

Whoo, tough crowd, tough crowd, I tell you!

My experience on the Storms is about what Fencer shows on his not quite as far, but close. Contrary, on the old Azaros and Pilot Roads, I'd be right on over to the edge on the rears.

My last rear PR (yes, I like the rear brake - a lot) after a run over Hwyd 36, and 1 from Leggett to Cambria:

wonder who's gonna fix that one????

:jester:

You folks with the fried tires, what pressures are you running? These look like seriously overheated tires.
