I'm not as impressed with his recent work. I think he peaked long ago. Along with Carlos Santana....I think they were better back when they got high ;)

So instead today I listened to Hendrix.... :)

Stevie Ray Vaughn opened for Clapton once. Clapton said it should have been the other way around after hearing SRV. There's no doubt Clapton is one of the best, but he was right about SRV. No disrespect to "Slow Hand". Happy Birthday Eric!

In his defense, he is 72 and he can still play circles around most guitarists. He has put out some good material recently, the JJ Cale tribute album from 2 years ago is excellent. Is it all Eric? No. Would it have happened without Eric? No. I would suggest enjoying him while you can because guys like him and Buddy Guy may never come again. That Bonamossa and Trucks guy are pretty good though.

Clapton lives (or at least has a place) here in the Columbus area. I saw him at one of the local breweries a few years ago for their "Oysters and Stouts" event. He was just hanging out enjoying some oysters and stouts. Nobody made any fuss aboot who he is and he didn't make a fuss aboot who he is, unlike some of our local TV news sports reporters.

Just that the guitar solo on that track was done by Duane Allman, not Clapton......

Made me chuckle.

Perhaps the penultimate Clapton:

Duane's solo is the real pretty guitar accompanied with Jim Gordon's piano and he makes the bird tweet right at the end. I have the 25th anniversary edition and there are multiple cuts of songs and it's really interesting how intense the final version of "Have you ever loved a woman" is. I suspect because Duane is on that version. Eric always plays better with better guitarists.
