Finally the planets are aligned for the trip I've been thinking about for over a decade. Hopefully leaving the Atlantic Coast and enjoying our beautiful country via 2 wheels until I see the lucious blue of the Pacific. And then a bunch of riding around out west before I head back east. Details are sketchy at the moment- I'll be posting on probable route and looking for advice etc.

I've been reading so many ride reports here for years so I have a lot of great suggestions already. I keep a pad on my desk of places I want to see. Very long already. I know that wherever I go I will have an adventure. Which is my purpose for this trip afterall.

I hope you all keep your FJR directory info up to date. ya never know when I might be looking for a friendly tool box or tent space, etc.

If I can figure out Google maps, I'll post a likely route. Maybe that'll prompt some detailed suggestions from the experienced locals (I hope)

This is my first attempt at multi day ride over 2500 miles in length. That one was only 7 days. This will be 3 times that so I know I have some learning to do. I'm very grateful for the knowledge I've gleaned here over the years. Thanks to all who post their detailed and often humorous and always informative ride reports.

More to come.

Russ

I'm meeting my buddy in San Fran area then riding together to SanDiego I think. He says there are a couple good watering holes there. Hope he's right. Guess I'll be in SoCal. thanks.

Make sure you wear you Red Sox gear when you get out there.

Sure to impress all the SoCal laydees with your debonair demeanor... ;)

Sounds like a great adventure. Have a blast!

Oh, and if you happen to break down in southern New Hampshire, I'm here for ya buddy! :p

OK the bike is coming together in good order.

Done: Coolant Change with FJR ********, Rear suspension lube (PITA), new tires install planned, Tank bag (Nelson Rigg CL350) wired for GPS and phone outlets.

To do this weekend: TBS and spark plug change, finalize the tent, sleeping bag and extended tool kit.

At 46K do I really need to worry about the CCT?

I should be rolling in 20 more days. Still working the early route between here and South Dakota. I'll be asking for more advice on that soon.

Later--

How about doing the 50CC from San Diego to Jacksonville with Hoagy's Heros on the 10th of Sept. Departing at 8pm from San Diego - party in Jax on the 12th. See details at IBA.COM

Most (both? all?) of the bikes that have thrown chains have been 2004's with about the mileage you have now. With so few samples, we don't know if the year is a significant factor or not. If it's not noisy now, I wouldn't mess with it now, but maybe pick one up and stash it on the bike. Then keep a keen ear on it during the trip. If you should hear the cam chain noise increasing it wouldn't be that big of a deal to find a Yammy shop on the road to put the new tensioner in for you since you already have the part.

OK, getting a little closer to departure day (8/31). Put new tires on yesterday, got my rear Hyper-lites installed. Boy are those suckers bright. They'll either save me from being rear-ended or precipitate a flurry of road rage from someone who didn't not enjoy the partial blindness just cast upon them!

Bike is ready to go. I have a few more items to gather up and I'll be all set too.

Anyone got advice regarding the TransCanukian highway from Ottowa to Sault Ste Marie? Just wondering if there are any "must sees" or "must avoids" along that route.

I've been staying in touch with AGirl the last couple weeks as she's doing a clockwise (sort of) route around northern USA while I'm going the opposite direction in generally the same lattitude. I'm hoping we cross paths for lunch or dinner.

More later, thanks for reading.
