Parking the trailer at Randy (from the forum) house outside of Harrisburg and hitting the road around 10am Thursday. Planning to ride down thru WV on either 219 or 220. Anyone going our way?

I would be interested in catching up with you guys on Thurs AM. Arlene and I will probably head out from Maine on Wed AM and I think the Harrisburg area would be a reasonable trip to make in one day with 2 up.

I was reading your other post under "The Pace" and it sounds like we would agree on riding styles and pace. I like to "get into" the twisties when solo but would prefer to use more restaint with a passenger aboard. Last year I turned the EOM trip into an Iron Butt run. This time we want the ride to be more relaxed so we set aside 3 days if necessary for the trip to Boone.

We don't really care whether we arrive in Boone on Thurs night or sometime Friday. We like to stop and take pics and check out some scenery along the way. We were considering hitting the Skyline Drive and BRP on the way down but we could do some of that on the way back. Randy will probably know the area better than us and have some good ideas on the best roads to take.

Let us know if this would fit into your plans.

I'm leaving to go to a ball game now. I will PM you when I get home if it's not too late or tomorrow morning.

Charlie,

Unfortunately, I won't be making the trip. We'll be out of town or I would offer you/Arlene a bed/shower/meal. If you guys are going to meet up near Harrisburg, let me know and I can make some suggestions for meeting points. Probably the easiest would be near Carlisle. It's right off of I81 and only about 10-15 minutes from my house where George will be leaving his car/trailer. There are plenty of hotels/restaurants/gas stations very close to the exit. Here's a link for many of the accomodations in Carlisle https://www.carsatcarlisle.com/guest/where_to_stay.asp

My plan was to leave eastern Long Island very early on Tuesday morning, I-78 across PA and then pick up I-81 near Harrisburg. I was going to try and get a ways into Virginia before I called it a day but I'm sporting a new seat on the bike and I'm not sure if my ass is going to revolt or not so I was considering spending the night in Carlisle. Like Charlie I want to do the BRP on the way down so I was leaving myself an extra day to sight see if the weather holds. Nothing is set in stone though so I'll keep my eyes on the thread and see what you guys solidify.

We're going your way although I think we're heading down on Wednesday morning. The plan is to take 219. Maybe we'll see you if you head out sooner than Thursday? We're each on an '05. We usually stop in around Elkins for the night. We ride at a pretty good clip...if that's ok with you.

My plans are not firmed up yet, but I'll probably be leaving NY state on Wed. morning and take two days to go down. I hope to have a pillion, but that's not certain yet. I'll keep an eye on this thread and may meet up with some of you.

My plan was to leave Mechanicsburg around 10:30am on Thursday. Take 81s to rt50 in Winchester, then 220 s to roanoke and the BRP. I figured on getting to Boone by early afternoon. But, if we want to hook up with the Friday ride in Shady Valley, then a more westerly ride from 220, such as 220 to 460 to 19. Then I'd probably ride the BRP on the return trip. Decisions...decisions...

That's what we're thinking, ".....two days to go down."

I took 219 home from Alabama in May when I picked up my 06. Good choice. Not real twisty but some nice corners and views. Watch some of the sharp corner because the trucks have to ride the shoulders and they track in gravel.

Axeman, the route you're looking to take to Carlisle is exactly 3 hrs from Giants Stadium. I go that way all the time, and will be heading out to PA this Thursday. Just thought I'd give you a time span for travelling that route. E. Rutherford (NJ Tpk exit 16W) -Carlisle...approx 180 miles, give or take. I know they're doing constuction around there (78/81) so I'll let you know how much more time it takes on a weekday.

Also.....approx 3 hrs from Carlisle to Front Royal VA on 81.

:) Geez, sounds like most of us are going to be in the same area about the same time with similar agendas and some flexibility. Maybe we could all meet up at the same motel in Carlisle Wed night or Thurs morning.

Dave Robinson (cafn8d) and I are leaving from No. VA Thursday morning and will probably hit the Blue Ridge Parkway at Waynesboro, VA around 11:00 am or so. Any interest in trying to hookup in Waynesboro. Its about 300 miles down the BRP to Blowing Rock, NC and then about 10 miles or so up 321 to Boone.

Thanks for that info, that gives me a realistic time frame to work through. I live about 90 miles out of NYC on eastern LI so the first 2 hours is taken up with getting off the Island and through the city. To stand any reasonable chance of getting through Manhattan unscathed by traffic, I'm going to leave here around 4 AM to try and beat the rush through the Midtown tunnel. That will leave me plenty of time to find some roads to skirt around any construction that might be happening.

I'll wave at you guys as we're crossing paths. I'm going TO the Lyndhurst area Thursday morning (or maybe Wed night). Really sorry I'm gonna miss this.

BTW - the 78/81 construction is negligible. but, if there is an accident, all bets are off. Thursday morning should be fine.

Keep in mind the 78 construction around Newark. They have the express lanes shut down and have temp lanes open on the regular side.

while it adds about 15 - 25 minutes to the trip, may want to consider going across 80 and down 81.

Again, day/time of travel may make it a non-event and 78 would be fine.

I'd like to be further along than Carlisle by Wednesday night. Elkins, sounds like a better place to stop for the night. I definately want to be in Boone on Thursday afternoon or evening.
