I'd like to be further along than Carlisle by Wednesday night. Elkins, sounds like a better place to stop for the night. I definately want to be in Boone on Thursday afternoon or evening.
Yeah, for us Elkins. There are several food and hotel choices there too. We have stayed in Lewisburg once, but I prefer Elkins. We should exchange cell numbers maybe...if you'd like. What is your riding style like? ie: cruising, aggresive, semi aggresive, crazy ?

We are staying most likely at the Super 8 Hotel on right hand side (heading south) of RT 219, across from Western Steer Restaurant (buffet) in Elkins, WV. Arrival time TBD.

I like to go pretty fast but I'm not a peg scraper. Only thing is that I'm hoping my daughter comes along with me as pillion and this would be her first long ride. I don't have a cell phone, but Deena does so I'll send you that number if she goes. If it works out I'd like to meet up with you Wednesday AM and ride down together.

Geezer,

We typically take I88 west to Binghamton and then I81 south to around Carlisle and pick up I76 west. That's the boring slab part of the ride :-(.

At Bedford, where 99 and 220 intersect, we jump on rt30 to rt160 to get to rt219.

We can meet you anywhere along this route. Maybe we can meet near Scranton? Route 6 crosses I81 at this point. Maybe there's a little breakfast nook somewhere? Or if you are planning on riding on any of the interstates mentioned above, we could meet at a rest stop or an exit somewhere that there's coffee.

I see your from around RT 28. Not sure which way you would be coming from to get to 219.

Sounds like we'll be compatable riding partners. I just like to ride safe...first and foremost. But we do like to have fun too.

I won't go in to details here how I am getting there. (read not very direct) But I am heading home as short a way as possible. So it looks like I will be heading home via 219.

Anybody else heading home that way early Monday morning?

Yes I know I not even there and I am figuring a way home.

Is there an advantage to me taking 219 as opposed to 81 South? Is it less traveled, more scenic? Elkins sounds like a decent distance for me also although I may be a day ahead of you guys.

219 is just a whole lot of fun. It's got a bit of everything. It opens up into two lanes and then is narrows down to one lane...the next thing you know, you're doing twisties up a mountain and then back down. The strange thing is seeing big 18 wheelers on this type of a road esp through the twisties. They fly right along though. They do kick up a little bit of sand and gravel so you need to keep your eys open for that.

Scranton looks like a good place to meet up. I'll be looking for fuel about the time I get there. Do you know of any particular place in the area that would be a good place to meet? Any idea about what time you'll be getting there? Scranton is about 2 1/2 hours from my place if I take the back roads across the mountains.

I'm thinking we could be there around 9am if we leave at 6am. We would be coming from Latham so I think that'll be about 3 1/2 hours. Looking at my GPS, there appears to be a "mobil on the run" at exit 188 there are some eateries and gas etc.

Just merge right off the exit (as you're heading south on I81) and continue on that road a block or so. It's route 347 aka N. Blakely Street. We should call each other to confirm. I'll send you an email with numbers.

BTW, on interstates...the pace is usually around 90ish. Hope there's no Blue Boys reading this post.

Sounds like a plan. I'll look for your email and respond. Looking forward to riding with you.

Thanks,

Parking the trailer at Randy (from the forum) house outside of Harrisburg and hitting the road around 10am Thursday. Planning to ride down thru WV on either 219 or 220. Anyone going our way?

I would be interested in catching up with you guys on Thurs AM. Arlene and I will probably head out from Maine on Wed AM and I think the Harrisburg area would be a reasonable trip to make in one day with 2 up.

I was reading your other post under "The Pace" and it sounds like we would agree on riding styles and pace. I like to "get into" the twisties when solo but would prefer to use more restaint with a passenger aboard. Last year I turned the EOM trip into an Iron Butt run. This time we want the ride to be more relaxed so we set aside 3 days if necessary for the trip to Boone.

We don't really care whether we arrive in Boone on Thurs night or sometime Friday. We like to stop and take pics and check out some scenery along the way. We were considering hitting the Skyline Drive and BRP on the way down but we could do some of that on the way back. Randy will probably know the area better than us and have some good ideas on the best roads to take.

Let us know if this would fit into your plans.

Charlie
Charlie,

Unfortunately, I won't be making the trip. We'll be out of town or I would offer you/Arlene a bed/shower/meal. If you guys are going to meet up near Harrisburg, let me know and I can make some suggestions for meeting points. Probably the easiest would be near Carlisle. It's right off of I81 and only about 10-15 minutes from my house where George will be leaving his car/trailer. There are plenty of hotels/restaurants/gas stations very close to the exit. Here's a link for many of the accomodations in Carlisle https://www.carsatcarlisle.com/guest/where_to_stay.asp
Randy,

Sorry you won't be able to make the trip down to Boone. We appreciate the offer of room and board, thats real generous of you. Maybe next year.

Right now we're sorta thinking of getting to Boone by Thurs night so we don't miss out on anything good Friday. We'll probably try to get to the Carlisle area by Wed night and see what kind of progress we make Thurs. It looks like there are several places to jump on I81 from the SD or the BRP in case we need to make up some time. We'll have 3 days to kill on the way back to pick up the roads we didn't have time for on the way down.

Thanks,

Charlie
