2x6 or 2x8 joist? My wife likes the gray look deck as well. Still pricing and will probrably make a decision next week.

I agree with slk50 don't skimp here, the cost difference is minimal considering the price of the deck

I have 6' span max so 2x6 would work but based on comments about feeling the flex I will probrably go with 2x8 joist at 12 inch spacing. With cad I had both 12 inch and 16 inch joist spacing designed so I just have to change material list to 2x8 for joist. My deck is only going to be 304 square foot not near some of the decks you guys have.

I have increased my current deck by 64 square feet to accomodate the larger furniture my SO has decided to purchase.

I like to over build rather than fall down.

Type code is built for cost savings in the home builder market, While adequate to pass code, the structural integrity could be better for slightly more $.

I build my decks with 2x12 banding boards and 2x10 stringers on 12 in centers. You could park a car on em.

Code around here also calls for a 2x2 bottom support under your stringer YMMV
