It sounds to me as if they are doing the right thing.

There are 'some" manufacturers who deny issues and calim that complaints are "groundless".

Well, good for Kawasaki. A positive thing, this.

Pity there is no similar initiative on the cracking frames on their ZX-14, which is infinitely more dangerous.

And infinitely more expensive to address.....

Side case bowling in more obvious than silly little frame cracks that hardly anyone notices?

No product is much good if the manufacturer doesn't stand behind it. Good for them.

I do find it puzzling though that they can create this awesome vehicle with all the latest technology packed in.........................and the plastic box falls off. Not that Yamaha didn't have similar issues.

Do they give the luggage design to the new guy while all the "seasoned engineers" are working on variable valve timing or something?

Japanese engineering. They set the specification, then design to it and nothing more.

Problem is, the specification rarely includes real world application. Perfect example here. They didn't think someone might hamfist the side case latch, or mount a top case with a passenger in front of it?!?!

God I am glad I didnt buy one of those damn cheap bikes

Course you all remember not too long ago hearing about FJRs stalling at intersections and such  or perhaps sputtering up mountian passes.

I wonder though... is the rate at which such recalls occur greater in motorcycles than cars?

I tend to believe motorcycle owners are more passionate and VOCAL. That, and the fact that we don't have the luxury of 4-wheels of safety cushion.

I think Kawasaki is being more politically savvy than Yamaha might be, but I also don't remember anything on the FJR that could get somebody killed or seriously injured. The FJR has no historical equivalent of "100% affected".

Believe me, for Kawasaki's Director of Public Affairs to get involved, there had to be LOTS of meetings and LOTS of phone calls to Japan and the NHTSA. It seems to have been orchestrated well. I'm going to bet there are replacement parts available in country already, and that Kaw has been dealing with this issue for 3-4 months.

Glad to see them doing it. Glad to see they're doing it correctly. Just sorry they have to do it at all.

Now if they'd just do a recall on that tank-top glove-box [you'd be lucky to get both of the pair in it], ...what a major piece of stoooopidity that is!!

Ouch...

Guess they got to get them bumps in the road ironed out. Not that uncommon for a new platform to have issues. Though, the FJR is a better and proven platforn, no question, hands down.

Kawasaki admitted they have a problem:

Kudos to Kawa.

I am so please to say that I am glad I bought a Feejer.

Last year I was actually intending to buy a new 14, but decided against the purchase as it was "early days" in it's generation and build quality was (IMHO) not nearly on a par with the FJR :yahoo:

How much will this cost to fix?

Now I'd like to see a post about final drive recalls and a German company........................ :)

Take a look at post #30, my post about my ignition failure.

I do agree with you that Kawasaki is stepping to the plate quickly.
