A few weeks ago I was surprised to see a Concourse with Wisconsin plates in the parking lot where I work. I found out it was our new Manufacturing Engineer. We've had a few chats about our bikes and riding, and today I asked him how many miles he had on it. He said 40K and about 25K on the engine. My belief is pretty strong that the FJR's have less problems but I was pretty surprised by the early engine trouble.

He explained there was a lot more to the story. He worked at Harley Davidson and said "those guys were pretty squirrely". I guess so. He started riding home and heard a noise. Unfortunately he was listening to music and didn't notice it quickly. He pulled over and found no oil in the bike. The "squirrelly" guys he worked with had let the oil out and ruined his engine.

What class.

Problem not caused by "Harley Davidson" problem caused by *** Holes who happen to work at Harley Davidson. Big difference.
Agree....I also wonder about the rider’s diligence in managing to ignore a very large red warning light on the top of dash that would have come on as soon as the engine was started.

Fair enough comments. I'm not a Harley hater myself, but I was pretty surprised by this story and gave my new friend the benefit of the doubt.

Pretty messed up situation if true. Kind of odd that they managed to drain his oil and leave no trace of a puddle under it.

08FJR and I are thinking alike. I would have gone straight to the police, demanded security camera video be preserved, and then told the owner/manager he has a choice - either give me his general liability insurance information (or I'll subpoena it), or agree to pay all of my damages in writing.

Then I would have pointed out to the responding police officer (if he/she didn't already know) that when an engine is run without oil, it locks up. And when that is a motorcycle engine, the rear wheel locks up. And when the rear wheel of a motorcycle locks up at speed, the rider goes down. And when a rider goes down, he can get hurt very badly. A motorcycle dealership employee (even a Harley Davidson Dealership) knows, or should know all of this and where I come from, folks would call that probable cause.

A person would really have to piss someone off for them to do something so rotten. It was certainly a felony given the amount of damage done. As with all such third hand stories, there is probably more or less to this than was related to the OP. The Concours owner certainly does not know who drained the oil; was he screwing another man's wife for instance? Did the owner forget to put oil in his bike and developed this story to avoid embarrassment? Was he using Rotella oil and it just evaporated? We do not know what the hell happened, but if he did not get law enforcement involved it makes be suspicious about the entire story.

A C14 inline 4 would probably run quite a while with the oil drained out, not sure it would give up the ghost on one ride home, but this is all speculation of course...

No oil. Engine won't last long I've seen them seize in a mile. Rod and crank bearings lock up.

Remember the movie Smokie and the Bandit. Truck driver gets beat up in bar and when he leaves drives over their bikes. That's pay back. I could never let that slide.

<semi inside joke>Does this guy go online by the alias "Star Cruiser" by chance?

It was the Concourse rider's story, he could tell it however he wants to. But it reeks of BS, too many inconsistencies. While we know our own Mr. Goodman, we don't know and shouldn't trust this engineer. He has two strikes against him already.

1. He rides a Concourse.

2. He is an Engineer.

I am looking forward to some more chats in the future with our new Kawi friend for sure. I'm not going to challenge his story directly as I'm a pretty tactful guy most days. But I am also a very skeptical person. I will find a way to discern more.

I guess I could drain his oil and see if the story holds consistent?
