Hi All,

I found a product tha I would like to try in a self modification of my FJR seat. It's a memory type foam called comfor. They say its used for fighter aircraft seats. I would like to try in my bike seat. My wife and I sat a sample on top of our seats and both thought it would make big difference. The problem is that I can only buy a full sheet of the stuff. A sheet of the med firm will run about $160.00 for a 1"x36"x80". I could divide it up into up to 6 cuts if anyone else may be interested. A 13"x36" cut may run about $35.00 w/ shipping if I am guessing right.

I know I am more of a lurker here but the site has helped me out with many things. I hope that this kind of group buy may help some other do- it yourselfers out. Also cut my costs a little.

Thanks, Scott

I was intrigued by your description and did a quick search. Found THIS place as the first hit. You can buy smaller sections here. Good luck with your seat. Keep us informed of your progress.

I followed Yambone's instructions and got the foam from here:

Can't recall what I paid for it but definitely one of my better farkles.

I looked for Yambone's photos of the process but they are no longer online. I have a sheepskin seat cover which I got from Sheepy Hollow but there are other suppliers. After re-shaping my seat the vinyl didn't look so finished but that really doesn't matter with the sheep skin cover.

Scott, the confor (temper) (astronaut) foam is great stuff. Used it in my plane and my FJR. Definitely worth the expense. Be advised though, in cold weather, it is like a rock. However, just sit on it, your butt (and back) will heat it up, and sink into a perfect shape.

Don't pull your cover too tight over the top of it. You definitely lose some of the advantage if your vinyl can't stretch and conform to the foam... and your derriere.

Thanks for the link and the advice guys. That will save me a lot of aggravation. I do upholstery work by trade so this shouldn't be that big of a deal. I'll try to post what I did when I get all the stuff together.

I and some other's on the board here have done some seat mods and complete rebuilds. Some members here get our foam and a very good topper is called Pudgee from an outfit in NC. Great product and prompt service. They also have some materials that are seconds or rejects and I've never had a problem with those products. SumMate Cushions. PM. <>< ;)

I like the product that Sunmate showed called Liquid Sunmate. That looks like it could have real promise. It would be fun to play with at least.

The following link is for a guy and his wife, who sell small amounts for airplane seats and Jim usually beats other prices easily. The trick is to get a slice of each density, firm, medium, and soft. Jim or Janice are nice people and can tell you all the ins and outs.
