Good for you. Just one shirtless leather vest away from fitting in! KIDDING!! Have fun. The more bikes the better!! Looks good!

Looks nice - congrats.

Just curious.... what constitutes a "high mileage" H/D?

That Fat Boy has 100,000 miles, but looks and runs better than many with 20k, I'm sure.

I couldn't really afford a second bike but stumbled upon this at a very low price and figured "what the heck; I'll check it out." After talking to the guy and seeing the replaced items that have been addressed over the years I was pretty comfortable. No drips, and he assured me compression is solid, which I believe. He had one of those organized garages that make it clear the guy was meticulous with it. Health issues force sale and he's about to buy a 3 wheeler.

At $3500 for the bike, I can afford a full rebuild and be less out of pocket than I would for just about any other Fat Bob.

I'm over the moon!

The guy was really nice, but was happy he was selling to a rider and not a poser looking for something to look cool to park somewhere.

He told me I should get a leather jacket, though. I was planning on buying one anyway. He made me promise I wouldn't buy a clip-on pony tail. :)

Congrats, hope the bike speaks to you!

I'm thinking a 'stich and full face helmet would make quite the impression with the leather & fringe crowd.

Heh. I guess he figures it goes with the territory. I've been wanting a nice armored leather setup (not a onesie) for more protection. And the right leather is cool no matter what you're riding. ;)

And I'll stick with the full face no matter what I'm on. No skid lids here. The full fave has saved my mug already. Wouldn't want to be without it. :)

Congrats, nice bike.

Pants, I've personally seen several HD models over 200k miles. Chris Comly has a 2005 Sportster he rode in the IBR that is now around 205k with no serious engine work. While still working for a dealership we had a Streetglide come in with aux fuel tank and well farkled for long distance riding, 4 years old and 185k on the odo. Most Harleys the issues I witnessed were more often the fault of owners watching American Chopper and thinking it was real!

There seem to be two kinds of HD riders - those that ride all the time, and those that don't.

I have a friend who has been riding the same Harley since 1988, and he bought it used. He's farkled and unfarkled, built and rebuilt so many times that there's no telling what the miles mean. I think the possibility of frame fatigue would/should be real, but it never comes up.

FWIW, high mileage for any bike when it's being evaluated as a trade in is 20k, regardless of what the book might say about mileage expectations for the year and displacement. That's just a fact of trade in life.

Oh crap. That means my 2014 FJR was high mileage 25K miles ago. Goal is to put 100K on it before the warranty runs out.

Toro: I'm kinda thinking the miles aren't indicative of condition on this one wither.

I tend to like t switch bikes around often, but I imagine there's a chance this one will live with me for a while and see some further rebuilds/upgrades/etc at some point in time. The idea of having an engine I can easily rebuild, tweak, and alter is appealing. Time will tell.

I was out on it again today. It is a fun bike. The pluses of the FJR (wind protection, smoothness, riding position) will now also be better appreciated. Variety is the spice of life. :)

My friend is no Rocket Scientist either. The bike he bought was an auctioned police version of the FXR. He brought it home and started "making it his own," including paint.

When you get them at low cost, you can have a lot of fun with them. I'm sure you will enjoy this one.

And at my house, the wife prefers the sporty look of the FJR, but far prefers the roomy perch on the Rocket/cruiser if she is going to come along.

Different strokes for different folks
