Well the road attacks are toast. They lasted a total of just over 2100 miles. So far, that is a record in my book. I did have a set of Avon wore out in 2500 last year. Here is how I would rate this set of shoe's....

Grip... "A" I could drag both pegs in confidence... Only felt them get loose a few times, but controllable..

In the wet??? Don't know, they didn't last long enough to get rained on.. :angry2:

Wear??? "F" What do you guys think... 2100 miles, and the steel belt on the rear is showing. The front is well into the wear bars on the sides.

Front tire wobble... "F" Worse than any Avon I have used to date. I really think at 50 mph if you let the bars go and not put your hands back on you would crash. It would shake the bars to the point it was hard to get your hands back on them.. Really spooky!!!!

Well it is back to Pilot Roads till I find something better... Just my 2 cents, Smitty

Damn, I guess the "Road Attacked" them really good! I got 1k for far on the PR's and they still look new! Best tire so far

Wow......., that's bizarre!

I totally agree about the front R.A. and headshake/wobble. The more the tire wore, the more intense it became almost to the point of tank-slapping. Conti factory rep. does not recommend front R.A. for FJR

What I don't understand (all bikes are ridden differently with different loads on different roads) is the wear on rear ???? I've ridden with a few guys on these forums and I'm not that conservative w/ the throttle or hesitant to charge into/through corners but my R.A. rear was replaced at 7,500 miles, nowhere near the cords/belts. My Pilot Road before that did just start to get to the cords at 9,000 miles and I rode that vigorously as well. I never have done burnouts and seldom do hard launches from dead stop.I hard accel out of corners while still slightly transitioning to straight up. Are the roads that much coarser elsewhere in the country... folks doing a lot of straight up & down Fwy burning????

Current Pirelli Diablo Strada EMS are at 6,500 miles and nowhere near the steel belts shown on another thread. I figure another 1,000 good miles w/ them. I always ride 1 up, hard bags on (lightly loaded) 43/44 rr, 39/40 fr. on any set of tires and check them every ride. lots of 80-90mph open running and when area and discretion permit, spurts up to 140+ now and then. As well, many 500+ mile day rides.

So why do my tires wear so much better??? Maybe one can ride lightning fast yet very smooth..., something I've been learning by riding with people much more skilled and experienced than myself......

just ponderin' here....not finger pointing :)

I think of myself as about average in aggressiveness and I go through a rear Avon in about 8k miles. Smitty seems to be much more aggressive than me, but that's not the only thing that affects tire mileage. Maybe the road surface in his area is particularly abrasive.

That's an understatement. Smitty lives in the land of chip and seal. A lot of his roads are like 60 grit sand paper. Makes for fun riding, but tough on tire$.

Dear Ms. 141,

The rubber chunks on the final drive and wheel would tend to show this test may have been a little more aggressive than most, hence the reduced mileage. The boys at NHTSA are not amused, and have circular filed your application for employment. Plz, do not re-apply. Also note, we do not employ "stoppies" in our testing protocol, this part of your skillz test was ignored.

Smitty,

WTF? My rear Road Attack lasted 3500 miles and it looks the exact opposite: worn out on the sides and

with plenty of tread left in the center -- although showing severe cupping (which is why it's goodbye, baby).

The front is still pretty good, though. I ran the "Z" -type on the front wheel and the "B" on the rear, which are the only FJR-specific tires.

I'd heard of bad front-wheel shaking with the Conti R.A.s but only when running the standard tires.

With the "Z" in the front I could let go of the handlebars at any speed and experienced no shake whatsoever.

I'm not clear on what tires you've been using. Surely they were not "Z"s and "B"s... :glare:

In my case, I ran the original issue R.A.s, and the Z fr. and B rr. had not been designed/ produced yet. Maybe Conti has made good on upgrading the tires ???? Certainly worth a reconsideration.
