Just curious to know would it be possible to convert a 04 to auto clutch? Are the internals the same? How much would be involved? Would an ecu change be in order as well? Just thinking aloud -- Anybody have any thoughts on this?

Curious in Ga

I'm sure you could sell the '04 and get into the '06 for a lot less $$$ and PITA factor. Done right, the significant other may not even notice. I'll keep the new one at my place for you until you get the old one sold, then you could fly in and drive it home. I'll even pick you up at the airport. Be sure and spec it with Moko's though, I've been known to drop them once in a while. :D

Yeah, or be like me, buy the Mokos, have them proudly displayed in your BEDROOM, go for a ride and then drop the bike.

You have trouble with tip-over's the bedroom?

Doesn't everyone have sliders on their bed?

I see the FJR sites are rife with jokes about scooters, mopeds, ad nauseum pertaining to the autoclutching e model.

Although I'm quite happy with my old 03, I would surely consider the new e model if and when it's time to retire the silver streak (the motorcycle, not me). Only downside I see is that I like Holeshots and I suppose that blipping the throttle on downshifts for that extra bit of sound would probably be a thing of the past.

But in the meantime it should be fairly entertaining reading the blowhard posts about scooters, etc. until the new bikes hit the road. Then we'll see who has the last laugh. My money would be on the e-shifters.

I think the best post so far was by the head-scratcher who wondered what happens when the e-shifter stops and starts :) Gee, maybe Yamaha forgot to address that possibility?

Keep the Yuks coming guys. BTW, it would be quite easy to convert the 03-05 to an e-shifter. It's called a trade-in

One thing about the e-shifter is that one could ride side-saddle. Hey, WTF, it does come in the gay blue color.

p.s. I kinda like scooters. Not because of the way they shift, but they're kinda kool in their own way. Especially the old ones. Favorite old one is the Mustang. New one would be the Bergman. Do you trashers of scooters know that a couple of scooters have run the IBR? A Honda Helix and this year a Piaggio (sp?)

Scooter bashers only do so 'cause their mommies wouldn't let them have one when they got their restricteds.

Same bunch of whining skid marks who never had a Red Ryder.

I had a scooter that I got from a buddy with no engine. I found a washing machine motor (gasoline with kick start) to make it go. Didn't go fast or far, but I was thrilled to no end to be sitting on something that would move under it's own power. Look Ma! No pedals!

The Red Ryder (had one of those also) is simple. Mom didn't want them to shoot their eye out. I did get hit by a .177 cal. Benjamin air pistol. Aimed at a beer can and it bounced back and hit me in the chest. Scared the BeJesus out of me. 'Course we're talking about a different time. Peeps were a bit tougher back then. So were beercans. No pop tops and made of steel - probably thicker than the hood on my new car :haha:

p.s. When I was 12, Santa brought me a new J.C. Higgins 20 gage shotgun. Kids nowdays can't even get a cap gun - too scary!

My Mokos showed up Friday. I very carefully turned the bike around, backed it into the garage and installed them immediately. I just couldn't chance another drop without them and the ensuing load of crap I would get from you all.

Probably better to just ADD the '06 E to your collection. Then you could ride whichever style you wanted depending on the kind of roads you were visiting.
