Read the instructions in the owner's manual but can't seem to get mine out 1 & 1/8 inch as shown. Hated to pull to hard. What am I doing wrong. It's 90F over here. LOL

Rotate the fasteners 1/2 turn counter-clockwise then pull them straight up to completely remove them. Once the fasteners are completely removed from their holes, the cowls will move easily. Line up the second set of holes and replace the fasteners.

Thanks, Phil. That's what I was doing wrong. Not completely removing the pins.

Then let us know if it made any difference. There seem to be some differing opinions on which position is for what temperatures. I never found much difference. Even the Yamaha owners manual doesn't specify, so I think they don't know either.

Wouldn't the cowls to the outboard position create negative pressure @ the trailing edge & 'siphon' heat away from the engine?

I'm wondering if the adjustable cowls are just a gimmick.

I read in a review (don't remember which one) that's what they are supposed to do in the outward position. In the 90'sF over here today and windy. Couldn't tell much difference. :glare:

I don't think for warm weather they have any use at all. What they do is allow warm air onto your legs in cold weather.

Maybe.

This topic has been around the world a couple of times.....

The vents in or out will make no difference when its hot outside. The real benefit is when its cold, then you can feel an increase of warm air when you open (vents out) the vents up!

Monty,

They don't work for dammit. I tried them numerous times on my bike because I love gadgets. Never could tell a difference. Well, that is until my bike fell over in a parking lot with the stupid vents out. Guess what part got scratched because it was sticking out? On top of that, the bike looks like crap when the vents are opened.

For as long as I continue to own this bike, I will never move those stupid vents again. Those are the dummest, cheapest gimmick ever. Keep them closed, be happy, and buy pants appropriate for the time of year you are riding in.
