Hopefully, with the new and improved welds I'll be able to carry that without any future cracks ;)
so, are you intending to acheive support solely via reinforcing welds to the subframe and its mounting points, or will you also include some sort of cantilever arms to the factory mounts under the pillon seat?

Already said here.

I got the subframe back from the welder last night and it looks gooo.....oood! Full write-up explanation and pictures after I reinstall it, but a bit of a teaser for those watching:

That looks so good I'm off to TWN's garage to remove his sub frame and have it welded!
UPS it via Ground to Greg Brott of Kennewick, WA and he'll spend about 10 days to do this quality work. Then TWN can drive up and hand over $80 for his professional services. ....by that time he could leave for WFO-6 from here

I talked about my cracked subframe and removal. In the third and, hopefully, final installment....I've got the thing back together!

Some pictures of some very decent welding and metal fabrication below with a more detailed write-up here.

It's kind of cool to know the FJR subframe area now. Only major area I haven't been into is the engine, clutch, and driveline.

Enjoy.

Your welder did a very nice job of the repair :good: .....so does this mean you can now overload the back end 4-5 times over the recommended wait as opposed to 2-3times? .....(nice to see that some people still have pride in their work).....you got a good deal by the looks of things....

Most excellent! Definitely looking a bit beefier. Should be able to handle your fat ***, errrr, I mean Pelican case fine now.

:D

My mantra: We can rebuild it. Better. Stronger. Faster.

You caught me. The Pelican case was just a ruse. Your girlfriend broke it and I had to beef it up so she could still ride with me.

....you're still coming home late tonight aren't you? :****:

Pelican, bracket, and contents comes out to about 32 pounds. I think I'm good.

He estimated $50 initially, but when I told him I had $100 budget his eyes lit up and he turned it into a bit of a project ;)

Definately looks beefier! Only problem I see is that if you have a tail light go out, you got some major disassembly to change bulbs!
Not as bad as I had feared. One has to remove the back plastic now, but that's probably an extra 15 or 20 minutes depending on if I have Pelican and/or fuel cell installed. I could still do it in a parking lot with tools on the bike if I had to. Plus, I went ahead and changed bulbs while I was in there. ;)

Doh! Good catch. Yup, simple bulb burning out is going to turn into one major PITA. But that's ok, Iggys' into S & M. :D
