I haven't logged enough hours to obtain my sorcerer's, worlock's, or wizard's license yet.

Wrench = good.

Multimeter = BAD!!!

Patriot is a nice guy and all, but this place has become a little to genteel. Bunch of pantywaists. :p

Whenever I order part from my favorite online discount vendor, I always fill up my 'stock'. I always have 4-6 oil filters on hand, 3-4 air filters, spark plugs, brake pads, and at least 2-6 extra of every fastener on the FJR. And I always have 10-15 crush washers on hand. They're cheap, so why not? I changed them every oil and final drive change.
you got me thinking, so i did a little (mental) inventory:
on hand for the fjr:

3 new oil filters 0 used oil filters

2 new rear PR2, 8 used rear tires of misc brands

1 new front PR2 3 used front tires of mics brands

2 new pairs of grips, 0 used sets of grips

1 new air filter, 0 used air filter

8 new Iridium plugs, aprox 12 old iridium plugs that still look good (not all from the fjr)

Aprox 12 quarts of misc Mobile 1 and half a jug of Rotella synthetic -A shitload of used motor oil that will find itself to settle some dust this summer.

1 new sets brake pads (front&rear) and some "mostly used" ones around for an emergency.

1 extra rear wheel, 0 extra front wheel.

1 spare axle, spacers yada dada (rear)

1gross of wheel weights, and too many used weights scattered through the tool boxes

1mounted GPS, and two backup GPS's

1mounted radar detector and one busted radar detector

1mounted OEM sheild with laminar lip ....and a stack of misc shields that I tried and don't work worth ****.

1dozen or so misc fasteners, many new, many used, some should be on the bike but I forgot to put them back on.

0 new throttle cable, but it's on the list

1 New Pair (ea) front/rear wheel bearings

2qts of fork fluid that I bought wrong, 0qty of what I actually need

0new head bearings but they're on the list

2burned out low-beam lights (Silverstar) currently in bike, about a billion more burned out Silverstars around the garage (why i punish myself reminders of how much these cost for how short they last). Yep, need to go buy some more. some cheaper PIAA bulbs on hand if need be.

0deer whistles installed, 0 on hand

1 OEM(original) crush washer on bike "0" extra crush washer(s)

well, that's enough boredom for now ........

I've had tremendous success pre-crushing the gasket prior to application.

Now. Tell us what you have on hand for that 35,000 dollar cage you own.

A bottle of Turtle Wax? ;)

+1 on the copperwasher...no issues and don't expect any. unless of course you torque the drain plug to the manual specs...but that's a whole different thread!

Finally got around to my winter oil change today ,,,

NEW crush washer ,,,( got half dozen the last visit to the parts store)

cost less than a buck a piece,,,,

20 ft.lbs. torque on the drain plug

10w40 Mobil 1 full syn.

To use an add on the TV

New Oil Pan $214.58

Gasket $18.05

Labor $79.00 per hour x who knows how many hours

Cost of a new drainplug gasket, $1.11 (almost priceless)

I've seen way to many pans and blocks with stripped out drainplug threads due to reused gaskets. There ain't gonna be any helicoils on my bike. No sir reeeee. Oh and that gasket part number is 214-11198-01-00 and it works for both the engine drain, diff drain and the diff fill plug.

I just went up to the Yamaha Shop close to me to pick up some crush washers. Holy freaking crap! They were over $2.75 apiece and that was with my 10% discount. I always thought they were a little pricey for what they were, but this is getting crazy. They said Yamaha had a recent price increase. Parts are getting steep if this indicates what the higher price parts are doing also. Where are the preferred places some of you guys use for cheaper parts prices?
