Cycle Pump blew a fuse

Sadly, I went to use my Cycle Pump to add air to my tires. I plugged it into the accessory plug on my 2014 ES...and it promptly blew the fuse for it.

Any thoughts? I ended up using my Moto Guzzi (! -- glad it has some usefulness) as my power source for the pump. It's worked flawlessly on that bike, hooked up directly to the battery through an SAE connection.

I also have a Powerlet connector hooked up to the battery. I've been a little reluctant to use it...wondering what I might break. Any thoughts?

you need to add another power source from the battery to power your pump. some will run the power source through a fuse block.

the accessory plug is 3-Amp (i think) and your pump is probably around 10-Amps.

Accessory outlet is fused around 2 amps or so - a pump should be fused for at least 10 amps. You'll need to install a 10 amp outlet on your bike.

Nice pump! It draws 7 amps no load and 10-12 amps full load. The accessory plug is fused someplace around 3 amps. Yes, the silliness of this has been discussed here often and the consensus is to not over fuse the small gauge wire that feeds the accessory plug.

Hook up a SAE connector to your battery, handy it is.

Edit: Looks like I type slow, others have covered it.

It's fused 3amps, as it says in your owner's manual (and in plenty of places on this forum). Make a new outlet for your pump, I ran a wire back from the battery (fused 20amps) to a socket accessed under the seat.

[edit] Either I type too slowly, or there are a lot of sad people spending too much time in this forum ;) ]

Count me among those who discovered where my fuses were about the 2nd day I owned the bike. Hell I though the outlet was like the one in the bed of my truck, but not it's just for a cell phone charger / ipod etc.

At least you didn't learn this lesson on the side of the road in the rain with a nail in your tire...

Unless you ride every day, most will have a battery tender SAE lead...... cut the connector off your pump and add an SAE plug (noting proper polarity of course), and put a 10 amp fuse in the tender lead..

Or buy a small pump with power adapters including an SAE one! My local Cycle Gear carries one that has its own zippered case that will also hold a pressure gauge.

Two words: OWNERS MANUAL!
What did some of you do before the internet? Seriously.
The same thing we do now, except we didn't get to complain to such a large group of people.

Anyway, my pump never blows a fuse.

I've been carrying this one for years. SAE on the pump end, comes with an 8' SAE cable and assorted SAE power adapters. It's very small but not quite under-the-seat small. Got mine at Walmart but I've seen them in AutoZone and other places.

I've got the same Slime mini compressor...and it fits under my seat

me too, but it is a tight fit under the drivers seat (sargent).
