wish i would have found this site before i bought last summer. Thought i got a good deal......... at M&W over in BA. At least they came down in price, K&N wouldn't deal with me at all. Then last week i was talking to a guy at K&N, he was asking me how much i paid, then he tells me he sells for $12,500. Not to me he wouldn't last summer. Maybe he thought i wasn't serious. He wouldn't budge on FZ1's either..........oh well his loss. i'll stop venting now.

Always concerned when I send $500 USD to an unknown recipient. This occurred in mid December. Took possession of the bike on February 2nd. Everything was as promised. The agreed on price was the OTD price with no add on costs. They even threw in a free FJR ball cap. Gerald and his team are a knowledgeable and honest group of folks. My only regret is the weather was too bad to ride the bike home.

seems to me that if you took your trip costs to get to D&H and went back to your local dealer and gave them D&H price + your trip costs to get total bike cost from local dealer they would go for that deal?
To heck with that! I think D&H deserves the deal just for being the best deal by choice and not having to be bribed into it. I checked with a few local dealers that I have bought bikes from in the last year or two and asked them the best bottom line price and it was still over $1500 more than D&H so I said thanks but no thanks and walked out and sent my check to D&H.

Does anyone know how the taxes and registration work if you live in Texas and buy out of state...?

I don't know Texas specifically but it should work the same way as other states. If you buy out of state, you will register it and pay registration fees and taxes based upon the rates were you live. I live in a ruaral area in KS were the sales tax is 5.3%. If I buy a vehicle in the cities of Kansas, I will pay the rate were I buy it which is always higher. If I go out of state I will pay only the 5.3% which is how it should work for you.

i know from Texas.

D&H sends you out the door with the total sale price (as promised), a sales receipt, and a Certificate of Origin. You go home and hit the county clerk's office with your receipt and CoO and pay local TT&L according to the sale price... just as if you bought it locally. The differences are:

1. You don't pay a handling fee to the local dealership to walk the paperwork through for you.

2. You pay TT&L for the actual price of the bike and not any other rolled-in fees from local dealers.

3. You pay TT&L based on the LOWER sale price from D&H.

4. You pay lower rates each year for the life of the bike based on that lower sale price through D&H.

5. Smile when you think about how the local dealer was chasing that higher margin and lost the entire sale.

I got my 06 there last May. The rep on them was so good I sent them the money before I went to pickup the bike. They sent the paperwork back to me, I registered the bike in my home state (Rhode Island), and had a great 1500 mile break in ride home. I would do business with them again (08-09??) in a heartbeat. Also, Renaa is not so bad on the eyes and I could listen to her talk all day.

I think you missed one step. You'll need to get the bike a Texas inspection sticker before it can be registered. In addition to the sticker you'll receive some paperwork. Said paperwork is required at registration time in order to pay your taxes and receive plates and a title. Had to do this when purchasing an out of state car some years back. Not difficult, but one more step.

Yeah, they are trustworthy. I sent them a cashier's check for the remainder amount two weeks before I picked it up. They were still there and I got the bike. :D

Got a call from D&H today I got the last one of the 5 that came in recently. They mailed my paperwork today. I'm hoping to be there next Thursday if I can get away from work. If not I will have to wait a couple of weeks more due to prior out of town business commitments. Ron said they would keep it in the box until I could make it up there. I'm booking my flight to Huntsville tonight, maybe that will seal the deal for my days off next week. I think I'm starting to get a little excited.

I just did it. Registered mine in Livingston Texas. It's very simple,

D & H will give you a temporary Alabama registration (no charge). You take that and proof of insurance to the County Tax Office in the Texas county you want to register it in. You will at that time pay the Texas sales tax and Texas registration fees. They will then hand you your lecense plate and registration.

Hope this helps.

I didn't have to get the Texas inspection certificate before I registered mine about 3 weeks ago.

Maybe because it was a new bike.

I'll be there Friday night. picking up Saturday or friday night? I am driving down with wife and daughter in my daughters new car. Her first long road trip by her self. she is going to follow me and the wife back after we pick up the New FJR. Maybe our paths will cross quickly.
