Let's see if any of you twisted dudes find this as humorous as I do. So I'm on my way to the hardware store to get some LocTite. Why do I need LocTite, you ask? Because I read the thread on how important it is to install frame sliders and I have my Motovations back in the garage. I had the LocTite but it had dried up. So, off to the store to get the goop so I can do the install. I pull into a space in front of the store, put the side stand down (so I think), and lean the bike over onto the stand (so I think). You can guess the rest - my beauty sinks slowly to the pavement despite my heroic efforts to believe it isn't happening. Apparently I didn't get the stand all the way down and it snapped back up when I WASN'T F*(&%$G LOOKING!

So, no sliders, and here's the damage report. One very small, almost unnoticeable scuff on the fairing - more of a paint transfer where it hit a painted yellow line. Substantial scuff on the back of the mirror, which just folded up nicely. Nada mas. I feel lucky as hell. I'm going to leave the scuff marks as a constant reminder TO KEEP MY D*&^%$&T HEAD IN THE RIDE EVEN IN THE PARKING LOT!

So my questions are, (1) does anyone else see the humor here? and (2) do I get to join the crash club?

oops...

Did that on my honda 919 a week after I got it.... Phone was ringing, wanted to stop quick and jump off to answer it, thought kickstand was down, nope....

Oh well, at least damages were minimal.

Sorry to hear about the drop  and I do see the humor and irony of the situation :glare: hindsight is 20/20.......

As far as joining the crash club.....I'm still a rookie, but I think you actually have to be in gear and in forward motion to join up.

Oh, and I don't think you are supposed to "loctite" the bolt on the sliders, just torque them.

Heck yes if only because, last winter, I was going out to get de-icer to spread on our steps when....yup...I fell on the ice going down the steps. :(

LOL I don't think so - You just dropped the bike, you didn't crash it. :)

Dude, sorry to hear about the bike. A few weeks ago I either lost one of my motovation sliders or it was stolen...doesn't matter. The next day after noticing it I was getting on my bike and put up the kickstand at the same time as leaning it upright... I was on a slight incline and over-compensated in the lean. I caught it just in time as she was going over but it was enough to shock me cuz it was going to the side absent the slider. If I had the slider and if I couldn't have caught the bike then I could have gently laid it down best I could onto the slider. I am blessed it didn't go down.

And yes, I have the replacement moto slider on there now!

Note to icon makers: Need either a 'Drop Club' or 'Dumb ****' icon for the sig lines. Though I wouldn't qualify for the former, I would most certainly the latter.

I do see the humor after the fact. I know its not so funny when it happens, but it does happen alot, which brings me to your next question.

No...That doesn't count as a crash. That would totally take the exclusiveness out of the club since I think just about every one of us has dropped the damn thing. We just oughta call this place the "I dropped my stupid Feejer forum.com" Maybe that should be part of the drive-out checklist. "Uh...Ok sir/mamm, please push your brand new bike over and let it hit the ground. After you pick it up and cuss, we will give you the keys and a bottle of touch-up paint." Then it would be out of our systems and less of a shock the first time it actually happens.

Sorry guy ,,,,, It's not funny to see or hear about anyone dropping their bike,,, But, the story is a bit Ironic ,,

Daughter got her MC learner's permit a few weeks ago,,, last week she dropped her husband's SV650 at the end of the driveway,, I'm waiting for a new clutch lever to get here,,,

but I think her bruised ego is better now,,,

I have to join the drop club as well. Sunday, slow right hand maneuver to park and I leaned it a little too far to the right. It's AMAZING how heavy this sucker is. I was still trying to hold it when my right hip joint popped out (it is artificial) from trying to leverage it back upright with my thigh.

That really hurt. I mean it REALLY HURT!

After that, I continued my ride of about 100 more miles. Trying to walk around the house that night was torture.

I was able to pretty much just 'set' the bike down and suffered a few scratches on the bottom of the bag (more like stone chips you get from actually riding the bike), and a couple of scuffs on the slider (I wouldn't ride without them). I needed help to pick the bike back up. It was totally embarassing. The sliders saved the fairing, trying to keep it from falling saved from more damage to the bag paint, but the pain I am going through now is a lesson about respecting the top-heaviness (is that a word?) of this bike.

So I agree I also need to:

KEEP MY D*&^%$&T HEAD IN THE RIDE EVEN IN THE PARKING LOT!

I find it IRONIC, but definitly UNFUNNY!

As far as qualifying for crash club status....NOT.

Dude to qualify for Crash Club status you must meet at least these criteria:

1. You must be on the bike while it is running. :glare:

2. You must hit something while moving or be hit (God forbid) by another vehicle. :angry2:

3. And if you retain your balance & don't fall over/drop the bike this negates the first two items on the list.

Hope you never need the sliders again.

A buddy dropped his bike while backing out of the garage. It was running. I think he changed the front tire one day and then the rear. He forgot to pump up the front break (changed the day before). The bike was running and it was moving.

I am not sure that you have to hit something other then the ground to qualify for the Crash Club. But I agree that the bike must be running and it needs to be moving. But moving backwards (even if you hit something) doesn't count either.

Sorry about your dropped bike (sounds like the same scars I have). Plastic doesn't rust so get it all fix/repainted when you get it out of you system (dropping the bike). And let's all vow to ask for help picking up the bike when it falls instead of killing ourselves trying to right it by ourself (unless of course you can).

Strange as it may sound-that's one of the things that I worry about and check the most!

-A trick-take a dremmel and grind down the kickstand stop so the stand extends at more (safer) of an angle.
