Great idea....

Going to order one, but how did you mount volt meter into the panel?

Did you use the Bezel + gasket and screw it on from the back side

or was an adhesive applied to keep it in place or does it just snaps in place?
I just did this last week. see here Thanks again 05FJRBlueDevil!

WARNING!!

Make absolutely sure you get the hole as close to the upper edge as you can with the panel or there is a distinct possibility that the back of the meter will hit the subframe on the inside, that bulge in the plastic isn't there for aesthetics alone. Mine, and I assume BlueDevil's too is a close fit. I studied his pics for a good bit to mirror his install as closely as possible since it clearly works. I believe that if you were to cut the hole lower it wouldn't seat flush due to contact with the frame stay on the inside. There is JUST enough room when done higher.

Once I was satisfied with the placement, I measured the dimensions of the meter and used masking tape to mark a template on the panel. Using a disposable cut-off wheel on the dremel I carefully cut a box out that just left the lines I drew in pen on the tape visible, thus smaller than the Datel. Then with the dremel sanding drum tip I sanded the hole JUST large enough to press fit the meter in there. Mine is wired straight to the battery with 18AWG wire and the longer it's there the less i intend to move it to a relay with the grip heaters like I originally planned.

I did not get the bezel, there is a very small flange (1/32"?) all the way around the face preventing it from slipping backward through the hole. I also didnt use the brass backing plate so I could pull it out the front if needed to get to the wiring. It's literally just sorta pushed into the hole and the friction holds it there.

Good luck! Remember measure twice, cut once! ;)

I went another route with my datel. I have a CTEK battery tender. I used the lighter pigtail. Hacked off the socket and put on a couple ring terminals and screwed them to the datel. When I ride I plug the Datel into the tender lead. When it's parked I have access to the CTEK socket for the tender. I haven't hard mounted it yet since I don't have heated grips that is the spot I will likely choose. It was an easy install no switches and a direct connection to the battery.

I wired mine direct to the battery with a momentary switch (press and hold) and mounted it in a project box directly under my dash shelf. The wiring runs up through the nose air vents. So far so good. My battery is 5 years old and still cranking along.

I love your setup. Did you fabricate the 'project box'? If so, do you have plans/dimensions?

You can buy these boxes in varying colors an sizes at most specialty electronics supply stores...I went to Sayals in Canada. I cut holes with a dremel and a 3/8ths drill bit to fit the components. Electronic hobby stores might sell these boxes as well.
