The dealer installed 10-30w at my 600 mile service on my '05.. The owners manual says to use 20-40w.

Should I be concerned? It is still a little cool here in New England, so may be no big deal right now I'd imagine.

I didn't realize this until I looked at the slip yesterday. I've put about 600 miles since the service and now have over 1200 miles.

I plan to switch Amsoil soon. Any opinion if I should switch to Amsoil now or at the 3000 mile mark.

Yeah, your dealer dicked up; he should've used 20-40. But truthfully, you probably shouldn't lose any sleep over it, especially if it's still fairly cool there in New England and you're going to change fairly soon anyway.

Though if it was the middle of a hot summer, I'd probably be going back to get the correct viscosity.

Uh oh....another oil thread. :clapping: Put the fans on the shelves, this is going to get deep. Oh, good choice on amsoil. I changed over at about 1800 miles. Most of the break in was done the first few to fifty miles you put on the scoot.

As brought out before many times. Be careful with what dealers tell you. My dealer was insistant on using Premium gas when I bought the bike. Owners manual tells you straight out regular unleaded is what to use. There was a few other things I wasn't overly impressed with this year either. Whe you get wrong advice it kind of rattles your confidence in him.

+1 on that. Got the same replies when I picked up the bike. But now realize who those comments were actually coming from. They were not the ones who would be working on or riding the bike. PM. <>< :D

+1 on switching on Amsoil, but be sure you're done with break-in before you make the switch.

The Amsoil will lubricate so well that an incomplete break-in could result. I waited until 4,000 miles after a Motoman break-in before I made the swap and all is well so far.

Some changed over at 25 miles after motoman breakin and no problems. Lots of new engines coming with synthetic already installed in factory motors so go figure. Use recommended or better and change your oil and filter often. The rest will be personal opinions and fodder for the internet.
