Take it back to them and demand a different car or your money returned.

This happened to me a couple of years ago. I bought a GM Certified used Vette. After driving it for a week or so I noticed some problems that led me to think that it had been wrecked. Sure enough, Car Fax showed a significant accident.

Went back and DEMANDED restitution. Long story short, a week later I had a newer Vette with clean history and the sales manager was looking for a job.

I have a 2004 Infiniti G35 coupe. Within 6 months of ownership, it was torpedoed in the back (parked) by some guy who lost control coming down the hill. I came to the car 5 minutes after it happened...and the guy had already taken off.

I took the car to the most reputable places in central texas, and they performed about 17,000 worth of work, including frame straightening. The interesting thing is, they told me it would not show up on carfax, and they had no obligation to report it. I was a little taken aback by this, as I have used carfax before. Six months or so later, I ran a carfax on my car and guess what...nothing showed up.

I honestly don't know the legalities of carfax and reporting, but I will definetly have a pro mechanic check any used car I buy as well.

Was insurance or a police report filled?

I think carfax gets their info from public records in the police and some insurance. or it could be the other way around.

So, I sold it back to the dealership for a little less than what I paid. Then I went across the street and bought this.

2007 Jeep Patriot Sport 4X4. The wife loves it so I guess that is all that matters.
IMHO Eric, you should still turn the SOB into the base and get his *** blacklisted.

Ive had cars before that you can tell have been wrecked, but there is nothing on carfax. Carfax is only public records from what I understand...and not a guarantee.

More on topic...I think its the buyers responsibility to have the car checked, get a carfax, that kinda thing. Especially on a used car...ive been burned one too many times to NOT do my own research. Any dealer will let you check one out if thats what it takes to make the sale. JMHO

E1Allen next time don't mess around, buy your next vehicle from one of the fine, fine dealerships that line Yadkin road. I hear they take allotments :good:

Carfax is a total joke. I had 3 major collisions in my old truck (all 3 of them the other persons fault), and NONE of them showed up when I ran a Carfax report prior to trading it in. Since I had paid for a monthly subscription (I was looking at used cars), I ran a few friends cars that had also been in accidents. Only one of them showed up. Waste of time and money in my opinion. Never trust a 'clean' carfax report.
