Mr Twisty and ngarider: I scouted the ride yesterday and wanted to give you a review.
All good rides start at Cracker Barrel
The motel is under new management.
Some of the scenes riding over to Devils Triangle.
If you think the roads at Devils Triangle will be like the Dragon or Cherohala skyway you will be disappointed. The first two thirds of the ride is on patched road with salt spread about with gravel coming off driveways onto the road. There were three challenging swithchbacks going up hill that looked kinda like this, only with fine gravel and salt mixed in:
The last third of the ride had six miles of wonderful road that reminded me of the snake on Hwy 28 below the dragon. If there is still interest in doing this ride I would like to do it again, but I was disappointed on the condition of the road and I thought there were more twisties there. Just getting out and riding is great, but add a lot of curves and it makes it a lot better to me.
I suspect it would be a better ride later on in the year, when the rain has washed the gravel and salt off the road.
The ride took six hours with about 4 stops and a little over 200 miles. The weather is saying partly cloudy right now and up to 61. I wanted to give you a realistic idea of the ride before you go. Let me know if you still want to go and I will meet you at the motel at 9:30 and leave at 10am.
