Angus, I've had an 04 and an 06.

The gen2 bikes are cooler as they've added some venting louvers on the sides you can open up quite easily which helps a lot with the heat issue.

If you're looking to buy a bike I've seen an ad in the classified section from tatesride's 06 with a lot of farkles for $7500, that's a deal.

Hope this helps. Regards Tom

I have an 06 and have no complaints about the heat. At least not from the bike, but this +100 everyday out here in west Texas is killing me! I have no experince on the Gen I models but from those I have talked to, the heat is an issue. I would seriously consider an 06 or newer if most of your riding will be in warmer temps.

Apparantly the heat has fried my brain. Here I am casually reading through the forum and decide to weigh in on a question about heat issues between 05 and 06 models. Doesn't really occur to me that this has been discussed ad nauseum, or that person posting question has over 300 posts and should know better. But most importantly, I've lost track of what day it is and fail to realize that IT'S FRIDAY!

I think I am going to have to start drinking early today!

I had an '05 and presently own an '08. Big difference in heat between the two. Yamaha really addressed the heat issue with the Gen II.

I can confirm the heat on an 04. My old 04 could get pretty roasty especially in the Summer heat. The 08 I'm riding now is much better in that regard.
