Anyone ever tried RonAyers.com to compare their prices? That was a huge vendor on the Suzuki board I belonged to years ago, and they have Yamaha too.
Just curious. It isn't Friday, so I should be safe.....I think.
For the complete fuel tank and connections, etc., RonAyers quoted $473.90. UMotors quoted $485.10. List is $629.95. P/N = 5JW-YK241-50-P1. Those quotes are from today. That's not much of a difference.

I just recently purchased the parts necessary to repair my bike after my little crash. I just beat the price increase. Whew. I will just have to compare prices in the future. In a market based system that is the way it should be. :drinks: They establish prices and maximize profit, we compare prices and make rational decisions. This forum is a great help all around.

If Ayers turns out to be cheaper they will get my business. They provide access to the parts fiche online and you can just click to order.

has anyone ever tried zanotti's for their fjr parts? i ask, as that's who the fj list used to use for fj parts, until UM came around. zanottis offered very good discounts; i'm assuming there would be no difference with parts for a bike made in the 21st century? ( :

Do you mean Zanotti in Butler, PA?

https://www.zanottimotor.com/Yamaha.html

I'm not sure, but it's worth asking. Any idea who you used to talk to there?
john holland. he was the contact person. i haven't used them in a while, but i've been informed now that you can go to their website (as posted by a previous poster here) and do it that way.

a couple years ago i priced parts from them as well as umotors, and zanottis was only about 5% higher in price. they've been good to work with.

$11 pays for some shipping charges, though.

I am really disappointed because I never even priced other places. But I guess I'll just have to have fun price shopping on more items. I really really liked calling UMotors -- they always treated me wonderfully. But I have to put food on the table and gas in my truck, furnace, etc. etc. too. Prices are going up everywhere, and I guess this was inevitable in some ways. We are all getting squeezed from every direction financially.

To say I'm disappoointed is an understatement. I normally never checked any where else for OEM and most aftermarket items. But, I understand they are in business to make money and probably feel this increase in prices is necessary.

However, I am in business to save money and, now, no longer feel loyalty to UMotors and will search other places for better pricing before purchasing from UMotors.

'tis a shame to lose a supplier w/ such good pricing and excellent customer service. I'm hoping the latter doesn't chage as well.

How 'bouts sunnyside/desert motorsports in WA? Do they have good discounts for FJR parts?
Last time I called them for a quote, they were higher than the local dealer who's normally high. They wanted ~$315 for a radiator that Umotors was *going* to sell me for ~$215. From from +15% to +30% would bring it up to the ~$245 range (plus shipping). Seems like they'll still get the business, but not by the margin they had.

With UM's revised pricing philosophy, their pricing should (in theory) be at parity or slightly higher than these guys: Cycle Parts Nation I've ordered quite a few things from these guys and, apart from their webiste being somewhat slow, have been very happy with the service.

Have done business with them and they were good but not the only game in town. I'll shop where my hard earned bucks go the farthest period.

My only problem with RonAyers is I have to pay state sales tax. They are in my back yard!

:(

Beyond that, they ARE an exceptional service shop to deal with.

Now I know why I was burned by University Motors this week. Someone had posted that they got the Gen II shop manual from University Motors for $43 shipped. Based on all the positive feedback at this site, I called yesterday to buy the shop manual and they said that Yamaha's price went up and it would be $54 shipped. Well, I went and bought it anyway. Now I know that it was not that Yamaha's price went up but their profit margin went up! It would have been nice if they had been honest about their change in policy instead of blaming it on Yamaha. I will be looking forward to people at this forum finding better dealers to do business with.

i don't know what the "rules" are here in dealing with UM because i've not needed fjr parts, but with the yahoo fj club, you need to have the part number and contact mike kolstad personally, not just emailing the business. mike has been nothing but superb in working with us and getting us the right part at a great price. that you didn't mention his name leads me to believe maybe you just contacted the business and not mike? we also have to mention we're with the yahoo fj group. i know, it sounds like we have to do it a certain way, but really, it just saves mike some time by not having to look up parts.

Yamaha Sports Plaza and Cycle Parts Nation appear to be the same company.

Shipping and handling may skew the numbers.

I've bought all my Yammie accessories from U-Motors and have nothing but great things to say about them. Like most of you, I never shopped anywhere else. Guess that will change. However, my local Yamaha shop would get my business but they charge LIST PRICE for EVERYTHING! I have never figured that out either. Customers that have bought bikes from them don't get a discount. So, any discount is better than what I can get locally.

Back when I had my V-Star, everyone went to Tony at Yamaha Sports Center in Longview, Texas. I never got pricing from him since U-Motors was known to beat everyone. Tony (if he's still the contact) might be someone to check with. They were great to deal with when I was purchasing parts for my V-Star. Like others, a phone call would be best way to get your price. Here's the website: https://www.yamahasportscenter.com/

+1. I would very much like to support my local Yamaha shop. But if they insist on charging list price on parts and accessories I feel compelled to do business elsewhere. I understand that they may have overhead issues. That's their problem not mine.

Next time I need a handful of parts I will look up the parts at one of the dealerships that will discount, add whatever the shipping costs are and bring that to my local guy and show it to him. I'll pay him the added % of what the shipping would be to help keep him in business. But I'd have to be stupid to pay him more. Plus it would encourage bad business practices, so I feel it would be wrong to do so knowingly.

I'm not as eager to throw UM under the bus as some of the posters above... they've always given me excellent service and support for parts I've bought, even going out of there way to make things right when stuff got screwed up that wasn't their fault. I may investigate other options for buying, but believe if their prices are in the ballpark, that they've earned my repeat business.
