When I first herd about this fund raising event I thought wow a motorcycling event to raise awareness and money for a guy issue ... awesome. So I went to their site and was excited to see one being held near me and so started reading more. I became disappointed as my bike .. our bike isn't considered "suitable" to be rode in their events and that you have to have a certain "style" or "type" of bike to participate. Its sad and short sighted IMOH that others that have decided to own a more refined motorcycle like a FJR cant contribute and participate in this. Are there other similar event you guys know of that have worthy goals that allow us brother riders of all types to congregate and do good work? Whats your thoughts? Guess I'm just not hipster enough to be a distinguished gentleman.

The first yr I participated in this one there were some 350 bikes and numerous vintage, ragtop, etc. cars. The "country breakfast" listed on the map was served up by county sheriffs, a state senator, 2 state assembly people and numerous others from several city and county governments. Good food too! When I say "served up", our elected officials donned the aprons, dished out the chow and went out of their way to make everyone feel welcome & thank us for our participation. Then the ride- completely police escorted, the entire way. After lunch in Myrtle Beach you're on your own to go/do whatever. The 1st yr there were mostly HDs, a couple GoldWings and 1 sport-type bike- me. No one was snooty, met great folks and chatted all day. The 2nd time I went I was one of 3 sport-type bikes of at least 400 bikes plus many more great looking antique/muscle/touring cars and trucks. And again I had a blast! Just don't get in a impatient- it's an all day event and no one gets in a hurry.

No not snippy and sorry if sounded so actually just disappointed a little. As to why I don't just start my own.. well honestly I work, a lot. I only get usually 1 or 2 days a month off unless I'm on vacation. Also doing something like a fundraiser event properly takes a good amount of time and planing if done right and I'm not a big fan of half assing stuff especially when involving other people up in it too. Its what makes those that do organize such things as charity rides, our owner meetups and other events so special.

I joined the DGR last fall here in Cedar Rapids. Pretty good turnout for a last-minute advertising effort last year. Not sure how much (if anything) was raised, but it did at least make the local news.
Of course, the news billed it as a local "Harley" charity ride.
I rode my '72 CB750 cafe project--fit right in. Well, except for the skinny jeans.

My daughter's father-in-law had prostate cancer. It wasn't spotted until it had spread into his spine. He was in a wheel chair for 18 months, undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy. All too late.I'd never heard of this before. It looks like something that would be somewhat less fun than having a root canal.
Why do men need to be made "aware" of prostate issues? I thought Mother Nature does a pretty good job of that all on her own.
His suffering was a lot worse than root canal treatment.
His funeral was last week.

Sorry to hear of this mcatrophy, my Brother-In- Law John is suffering from this right now. Same scenario, wasn't spotted until it had spread throughout his body! He's still with us and fighting hard, but he's indeed suffering and will eventually lose the battle! Fantastic Guy and Great Rider!My daughter's father-in-law had prostate cancer. Sorry to hear about both those guys medical problems. But I fail to see how this faux charity ride helps anyone there. If you believe in a charity such as this then just make a donation, or better yet volunteer your time. i don't get how getting "dressed up" and prancing around pretending to be something you aren't helps. I don't know a man alive that isn't already aware of prostrate disease. There will always be some that choose to ignore their symptoms. At their own peril
