Man, I'd definitely think about doing this. I'd like to know how much of an improvement over stock before I attempt this, though. Stef, please let us know how it goes once you're up and running. Good luck mister!

I did save all the original stuff from Trinibob but never got around to doing my seat mod. I have it in a Word document and when I try to post it here, has text but no pictures. But if you want a copy, just send me e-mail and I can send it to you as an attachment.

Thanks Kyote, mail on its way...

Although I'm all done with the job, I want to see if I went a different way from T'bob.

Now that it's been a couple of years, how's this holding up.

Did cutting all the way thru the original foam cause it to break down faster?

What glue did you use?

You also never reported on the comfort.

OK, it's been over two years and I had to check my seat again b4 I could answer you. (I've since bought a Corbin seat and switched to that. It seems to agree with my backside, so I retired the gel seat with a full pension).

- No apparent deterioration of the seat foam. That's pretty solid stuff and it's sandwiched between the gel insert and the seat pan. I wouldn't worry about it crumbling.

- I used a regular all-purpose solvent-based adhesive. Nothing fancy, it has to keep everything tight but there's really no chance in hell that anything will fall out. A trip to the local ACE store will take care of that.

- firmer than a stock seat, comfy...I was happy with it.

- only drawback, you could kinda see where the JC Whitney gel inserts were. Sorta like a VPL :dribble: I guess I could have done a better job of wrapping the assembly (foam padding + gel insert) in a thicker liner. But function trumps looks, IMHO, and I couldn't care less.

Hope this helps

Stef

Yes, it helps a great deal.

+1 on the function over form.

However, a nice mix of both is preferred.

Thanks

My daughter, very small for her age, has a TTR90 and I cut the seat down quite a bit so she could reach the ground better. One thing I did after I used the wifes eletric carving knife to get the approximate shape was I used a disk sander chucked up in a drill to literally smooth out the rough edges from the knife.

Made a pretty big dusty mess but the sander easily shaved the rough edges off and smoothed it out.

Just an idea!
