Do Bridgestone T30's wear faster than 023's?

After my experience with the 023's this last weekend my bike will not see them again. Even if they were free! Can't tell you about wear as they will be coming off with about 1200 miles on them. The T-30's were awesome for grip, but were typical of a Bridgestone in longevity. I got about 4500 out of the rear.
You dimwit, eberybody knows the OEM 23s are no good...that's been stated many times. It's the aftermarket 023GTs that used to be around that were good...now they make the T30s.

Bridgestone really fooks things up when they switch so quickly from a good tire.

Are your talking about the OEM 23's that came on your '15? Not the same tire as the 023GT aftermarket, which were my favorite tire and wish they didn't stop making. Looks like I'll probably pull my set early so as to not stress on my most excellent adventure to C-eh-N-eh-D-eh.
Correct OEM installed BT-023's.

How does my experience(first experience) with the 023's make me a dimwit Einstein? I thought I could get through my 600 mile service, at least, with these tires without almost wrecking the bike. I did read about the dissatisfaction with them, but most of what I read was about wear not loss of traction on dry clean pavement. But, thanks for your helpful comments!https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//public/style_emoticons/default/****.gif

Okay, I correct myself.

You are a half-wit. Feel better?

I put a set on my bike and have over 5k so far and the tires still look good to me. Just returned from a 3600 mile road trip and I am quite happy the tires. My *** however could use a little better seat!

Correct OEM installed BT-023's.
The OEMs are BT023F (not to be confused with F for front), specifically made by Bridgestone for the FJR.

There is very little difference in feel and longevity between the standard BT023 and the BT023GT, the F is (IMHO) an inferior tyre to the standard 023 or the 023GT.

As far as I am aware, the GT has an extra cord layer that makes it more suitable for a higher weight load (and stiffer sidewalls).

Stress level and bank account just went down. I've got a set of Dunlop Roadsmart 2's heading here in a brown truck (price was right). I really like the feel of the T30's, I'll pull them early for my trip then re-install. I've got a tire guy that will do my repeats with no questions

I guess I can add another tire to my list this bike has eaten up over the years. So far:

BT 021 (oem)

PR 1

PR 2

Storm 2 Ultra (x2)

BT 023 (x2 or 3)

T30

Angel GT

Fun tire...but they don't last. I got about 3800 miles out of the back tire. Normally get 11000-13000 out of the PR2's.
Ok, I am not getting this ... First of all El Tore Joe, (and not trying to pry here) but do you weigh 90 pounds of something ? And Im not being a smart a$$ ...

I have been reading these forums for a long time and I have actually seen some guys claim 15,000 or 16,000 on a rear ... At the same time, a bunch of others are getting 5,000 or 6,000 on the same tire ... This makes no sense to me whatsoever unless there is some variable we are not accounting for .. Are the roads where you ride just super smooth ? Are you just super light ? Do you ride 20 MPH all of the time ?

I got 6500 out of my last set of PR3's riding moderately and I am a bigger guy ... But I thought that mileage sucked ...

I now have T30's with 3,000 and they look to be good for many more miles but motorcycle tires tend to look pretty good until the go to crap rather quickly so I am not sure what Ill get ... Ill report back ... Ill figure on 6,000 (hopefully) ...

And some guys get 7,000 or 8,000 on PR2's as well. So, I don't get how others get double or triple the miles ...

When you get 12,000 what does it look like ? Is it ready to burst ?

Be careful with that RS-2. My rear was DONE at 6k. 6027 to be precise. The front easily has 2k left 9n it, but the rear looks like it was run on a hot cheese grater. Took them both off as a set and installed T30s. We'll see what happens.

11000 miles...still got a little tread, 12000-13000 miles...cords showing (I try to get my moneys worth). And no...I'm a little over 90 lbs. (x2) and generally ride a little over posted speed limits. I trashed the T30 GT's after running the SEO Ramble and Allegheny Camping Meet last year.

The way you ride, I wouldn't recommend expecting much more than what Joe got. I only got 4.2-4.3k if I recall. It is a fun tire though.

And in all fairness, I'm wondering if that RS2 just wasnt up to the task of riding like I do, 2-up and on those rough roads. I've gotta take a pic, but that rear tire looks like ****, like it was waaaay too soft. I've never had a tire look like that, so I don't know why this one does. The front looks amazing, go figure.

42-43000? really Bob?

Where is that damn decimal point???

Just change them. If you're asking, you doubt them. Don't pull a Zilla.
Good post. If you've got 25% left, you're risking having to buy at least one tire on the road at full-tilt retail and pay some dingbat $$$$ to mount and balance to save $65 worth of rubber. Not only is that a Zilla, it's also an Old Guy. ;)

Zilla and I both ran out of tire (PR-3) at the Reuben ride in 2012. Fortunately, the Yamaha dealer in Bend (Pro-Caliber) has some of the best tire deals anywhere and no sales taxes. We had a great dingbat help us mount the tires. FJRay is very reasonable in only requiring you to entertain Barry for one hour in exchange for a tire change. As Zilla found out, that price can be deceptively high..

We have twice-annual ZRX rallies in Eureka Springs about 200 miles from my home. I've brought riders here as well. We have a Cycle Gear local, so it's not much problem to pick up a new tire even on Sunday and either let them mount it or bring it back here and do it.

I went on a ride in Arkansas that was based only about 130 miles from my home. I had between 3/32 and 4/32" tread on the rear tire and figured I'd be fine for a weekend -- less than 1000 miles. I rode the last 170 miles or so to get home after the steel belt appeared. My original plan was to call the wife and tell her what tools to bring. I'd remove the wheel, take it home and mount a take-off on it, bring it back, reinstall, and ride it home. That would have been a 500+ mile day for her, but it seemed the most logical way.

Then a couple of guys* there convinced me it'd get me home. I figured I could check it every few miles and stop if it started looking too dangerous and call Motow to take me the rest of the way. But it got me home. I would never have dreamed I could get 170 miles out of a tire after the belt started showing.
