Also remember that it is normal for a lead acid battery to discharge a little each day even if it's completely disconnected. This may prove to be an even bigger factor than the clock and etc. The only way to avoid that is to buy a battery like a Shorai.

That's not true. Shorai's discharge too....just at a slower rate than lead-acid.

My bike was in for service and while in I mentioned that my battery was draining and wouldn't start the bike on cold days here in San Diego. I took the battery out and had them check it first and they said the battery was good, Hmmmm. While troubleshooting the problem at the shop they said that they found a system drain that was traced back to the LCD display, Yamaha authorized a replacement under warranty. Way to go extended warranty!

Hmmm, it is normal for the Meter Assembly (LCD display) to draw ~10mA of current to keep the clock circuit running with the key off. Perhaps your Meter Assembly is defective and drawing more than this but it would be a rare3 event.

Do you have any electrical doodads that could be holding down the charging system when you ride? Do you typically do short trips? Do you have a volt meter installed on your FJR? If yes, what does it read while you are riding?

No, ionbeam I don't have a VM installed probably should though. I have a FuzzBlok installed for my Garmin and it is ignition switched, that's if for farkles. The dealership got another display, installed it and it still has the same problem, makes me wonder if they realize there 'IS' supposed to be a slight drain. My issue was that the bike wouldn't start on cold (by San Diego standards) days after the bike sat for a week or more, I hadn't had that issue before. Thanks for the info on the 10mA draw. I'll relay that info to the shop to see if that's what they are seeing. I am interested in the Shorai battery.

My bike wouldn't start (turned over - too slow to catch ) on the last cold morning....so I rolled it down the driveway and bumped it in 3rd (or 4th) gear. Boom! Everything worked fine....but the odometer resets when It runs that low. I rode 60+ miles to charge it back up.

Maybe it was cold 'cause in Minnesota, it was 30 degrees last Saturday.
