Don't back up!!!!

I got to my warehouse yesterday afternoon, parked my bike in back of my co-workers pickup. Thought to myself, hummmm maybe I should park up front by the stairs, but his truck was pretty close to them as well. So I'll just leave it back here, I usually leave before him anyhow.

I had a big lunch, stomach was pretty full, digestive system working overtime. It's 4:30 and I make a dash for the bathroom which is down at the end of our warehouse. Ahhhhh relief.... :rolleyes:

As I'm cleaning things up I hear my co-worker yell, "see ya tomorrow". Shit, I think to myself, then I yell out DON'T BACK UP MY BIKE IS PARKED IN BACK OF YOUR TRUCK!

I hear the desiel start up, I'm thinking OH SHIT here it comes, then CRASH.

Shit, it's down.

Need a right side pannel, windshield & bracket, right mirror and the muffler has a ding in it, might just look for something in the aftermarket world. Not to bad, just about a grand in damage if I include the muffler.

Yamaha Parts Nation has good pricing, I'll probably order everything from them. My local dealer is out of his mind with the prices he quoted me. I'd like to find a tinted stock windshield, but everything I come across is larger then the stock size.

Where can I get a stock replacement sized windscreen in a nice smoke tint?

Well I guess shit happens......

 
Awe...That just sucks! Ironically I thought about asking the wife to park my truck in the garage; just behind the Feej; but after visualizing what could happen I thought better of it and parked the truck myself.

Who's dumb enough to park behind a co-workers truck ???!!! :blink:

Sounds like a good sized one also being a diesel powered one.

Coincidentally, 85% is the general ratio of incidents resulting in damage to fire apparatus caused while backing, as opposed to 15% while headed forward. We are required by policy to have a person backing us at all times, many of the rigs have rear-facing cameras, and we still back into stuff....

Kinda what I was thinking. Not to rub salt in the wound, but...wow. I wouldn't be able to do anything but worry about the bike all day if I parked behind someone's vehicle. Especially a tall vehicle like a pickup, that probably wouldn't have a good view of the bike, even if he was looking before he backs up.

Either way, hope you get it repaired quickly.

Hey. an FJR from a neighboring town in NJ. Well, I'm in TX now, but I'm originally from NJ. I'll add ya to my friends list and when I take a road trip up there to visit friends and family, I'll give yo ua call. BTW, I'm originally from Pequannock. Just a few miles away.

PS - Sucks about your bike. The only accidents I ever got in were from backing up, so I always back INTO parking spaces now. NEVER out of them. Shoulda, woulda, coulda, but hindsight is lways clearer.

 
OK, I get it now. You parked behind a truck and that was his only means of leaving. I was thinking this was in a parking lot and you parked in a space behind the truck.

Still, the guy knocked your bike down. He (or his insurance) should at least share in the repair costs.

 
Well the parking lot by my warehouse is kind of long and straight. We all park along the side of the buildings. Yes, it was sort of my fault for parking right behind him, but I usually leave way before him. Like I said, shit happens and yes it was a big chevy 2500 lifted penis extension type of truck.

So far I'm just about 700 in parts, with a used windscreen from ebay. Not to bad, he gave me his amex card so no issues there. The bike should be back to original condition in about 10 days.

 
Don't forget to give Gary at Mondak motors a call. He might save you some more cash.

Or, check the price to get the entire bike panted. When I was recently hit my cost was a little under $900 for nbew plastic, but I got the scratchs filled and the entire bike painted for $1100.

Just a thought

 
Done shopping, $706.19 on his amex and I'm happy once again. :)

Might need to hit him up for a case of beer once everything comes in.

Bike needs a good tare down and rebuild. Get in there, tighten and clean up everything under the cowling.

Could use a coolant change while I'm at and I'll put a new battery in there as well. I'm still on the original 2003 battery!
