JUST A BIKER

I saw you hug your purse closer to you in the grocery store line. But you didn't see me put an extra $10.00 in the collection plate last Sunday.

I saw you pull your child closer when we passed each other on the sidewalk. But you didn't see me playing Santa at the local Mall.

I saw you change your mind about going into the restaurant when you saw my bike parked out front. But you didn't see me attending a meeting to raise more money for the hurricane relief.

I saw you roll up your window and shake your head when I rode by. But you didn't see me riding behind you when you flicked your cigarette butt out the car window.

I saw you frown at me when I smiled at your children. But you didn't see me, when I took time off from work to run toys to the homeless.

I saw you stare at my long hair. But you didn't see me and my friends cut ten inches off for Locks of Love.

I saw you roll your eyes at our Leather jackets and gloves. But you didn't see me and my brothers donate our old ones to those that had none.

I saw you look in fright at my tattoos. But you didn't see me cry as my children where born or have their name written over and in my heart

I saw you change lanes while rushing off to go somewhere. But you didn't see me going home to be with my family.

I saw you, complain about how loud and noisy our bikes can be. But you didn't see me when you were changing the CD and drifted into my lane.

I saw you yelling at your kids in the car. But you didn't see me pat my child's hands knowing she was safe behind me.

I saw you reading the newspaper or map as you drove down the road. But you didn't see me squeeze my wife's leg when she told me to take the next turn.

I saw you race down the road in the rain. But you didn't see me get soaked to the skin so my son could have the car to go on his date.

I saw you run the yellow light just to save a few minutes of time. But you didn't see me trying to turn right.

I saw you cut me off because you needed to be in the lane I was in. But you didn't see me leave the road.

I saw you, waiting impatiently for my friends to pass. But you didn't see me. I wasn't there.

I saw you go home to your family. But you didn't see me. Because I died that day you cut me off.

I was just a biker. A person with friends and a family. But you didn't see me.

Repost this around in hopes that people will understand the biker community..

If you don't repost this, it sucks to be you. I hope you never lose someone that rides.

EVEN IF YOU DON'T LIKE US, RESPECT OUR RIGHTS TO RIDE WHAT WE CHOOSE AND TAKE A FEW EXTRA SECONDS TO BE SURE WE ARE NOT IN 'YOUR' WAY

From the H.A.s website ?
Possibly, it was an email forwarded by a friend, I'll ask her next time I speak with her. In the email there were pictures beneath each quote, actually very touching. I tried pasting the entire e-mail with pics but it didn't take them.

You know, just my opinion, but the sterotype that this is trying to overcome seems like the black leather and studs type of biker image. When I'm dressed in my blue and white Yahama jacket, rding pants, boots and so forth, I've never seen anyone show an adverse reaction. JMHO

Yeah, its an old email. IIRC, I first saw it a couple of years ago.

The problem I have with it is the same one concerning the values I tried to instill in my children.

1) You will be judged by the people you hang out with.

2) You will be judged by the "style" of clothing you wear.

3) You will be judged by the attitudes you display.

4) You will be judged for your own rude behavior, even if that wasn't your intent.

5) If you choose to look like a duck, walk like a duck and behave like a duck....someone will think you are a duck.

The world may not be fair but it is real, sometimes harsh, and the results of one's behavior should be a sign. There are always those who wish to live on the fringe and complain about not being accepted.

Same here! When I'm riding, dressed in my ATGATT, many and vastly different people will start a conversation, from "little old ladies", children with their parents and many locals in the distant areas I ride.
Maybe it's the open attitude that is seen as welcome to the general populace?!?! :unknw: Then again, I'm not demanding they accept my "different" lifestyle. ;)

It's a cute email (and old) but face it, Harley posers live for the reactions they get from "normal" people to their clothes, hair, tattoos, loud pipes, whatever... the whole "outlaw" BS. So what's the point here?

must be nice to be perfect.

Agree 100%.

I have nothing against HDs specifically, and know many business people who enjoy their weekend HD rides. But the clowns who take the image thing waaaay too far get only the respect they deserve.

As previously stated, we ST riders have a "Lifestyle" also. The difference is, we typically don't flaunt it, or go out of our way to get a reaction. The gear we wear, which occasionally gets attention from non-riders, serves a purpose. The HD-poser look - tattoos, long hair, loud pipes, assless chaps, whatever - doesn't serve any purpose at all.

It must suck to have a brain that functions without logic... What point are you trying to make?

Yes you do have a problem. I guess you are just a little too dense. I love the way you put HD riders out as posers. A very large percentage of these people were on bikes while you were in diapers. It wold be a laugh for you to go up and call a lot of them a poser to there face. You are a very brave man hiding behind you keyboard.

You read my mind, I guess that means my brain functions without logic as well!

Well I guess you boys have your panties all in a twist trying to support HD bikers in this thread and others. Whatever floats your boat... the internet is free to everyone. I've been riding for over 20 years so I think I have a good feel for the HD crowd. I stand by my opinions but am I dumb enough to provoke a herd of them? No. Are most of them real Bandidos or Hell's angels? No, therefore posers. Or just prey to the HD marketing machine. However you want to describe it.

Lastly Spook, I've seen a number of your posts and it seems to me YOU are the one who hides behind his keyboard taking personal jabs at other board members. None of my posts are ever personal unless to respond to a dipshit like you.

It's all good brother. Opinions are like ********, everyone has one. You think they're posers, I don't think they pose anymore than the rest of us, we just have different styles (ST vs Cruisers). You asked for the point of the thread? Regardless of what we ride, we have a lot less protection than the cages and just want them to be a little more aware of us. An accident between two cars can be a minor fender bender, but it can be life threatening for us. That's all, have a wonderful day!

Since it's friday and this thread has already plummeted into the toilet..

Hutchuf, would be so kind as to post the rest of the picture in your avatar!!!!

I'd love to but I already got in trouble for my last avatar. This is the toned down version!

I'll second keithaba's request. Hutchuf... it's all good if you follow forum guidline #1...
1. No **** or obvious "Not Work Safe" (NWS) material (though links to it are okay, if labeled NWS).
