Right now, I have 350 empty refrigerator shipping boxes at the Sears store just east of the old Stapleton airport and Iggy has a catering contract for the dumpster outside of the nearby Piggly Wiggly. I can book those for a buck-tree-eighty for the run of the show, or if you give me and the staff just a wee bit more time, we might be able to get them to toss in Chinese lead-based painted plastic water wings for pillows and some old catalog pages for covers (I'll make sure you get the ladies underwear section).

Your pick. Verstehen sie?

Tim, my personal window of opportunity is shutting fast. People have already locked vacation weeks and my on-call schedule for the entire year is being written up next week.....any hints on what MONTH it would be? I could at least take a shot in the dark and get lucky that way. Well not lucky that way, but ah, hell...Please..

You have mail and WC is, as ever, completely accurate.

I'll help..... the timeframe is July, 2008.

:D
Tim and Dale: I know how very busy you are in planning NAFO, and I appreciate and applaud your efforts and hard work!

Just wanted to point something as food for thought, since I'm also on the Annual Roadrunner Rally Committee for my club.

BMW MOA 2008 International Rally is being held in close geographic relation to NAFO over July 17 -20, 2008 in Wyoming.

This may have absolutely no strategic effect in your planning and I fully understand it, just wanted to point it out. As an FJR owner for 6 years and a BMW owner for 39 years I am amazed on discovering how many riders proudly own both brands.

If I have to decide between the two rallies, no big deal. If NAFO Rally was the weekend before or after the Gillette Rally, then it would indeed be the best of both worlds for this old rally rat. I can get my Blue und White Roundel tattoo touched up!

Ya better let them bimmers organizers know so they can reschedule.

I didn't know they had a big TRAIN rail system in Gillette!! ;)

[sorry; this is an LDRider/IBA insider joke, referencing the 2001 beemer "Rally Train" to Redmond, OR.]

But seriously, thanks for the note, beemerdons. You are correct, however, in that the proximity/timing of external rallies has absolutely no strategic effect on NAFO planning. The fact is, a lot of the reason for the delay in formal (and final!) announcement was due to the NAFO Committee trying to juggle around various scheduling constraints. It's no surprise that there will never be one single date that can satisfy everyone's needs.

Got that right. I'm still hopeful the original date WILL change, as after it was announced we found out our 30-year high-school reunion is going to happen on the same weekend. We had a blast at our 20-year (wife and I went to jr and sr high together).

staying up front should not be a problem

Well... for all beemers but the K1200S.... that's a pretty lickety-split machine; they will hang with Blackbirds and Busa's all day long....

Recognize this exhaust from Park City? ;)

My rule for volunteer jobs - don't complain unless you can and will do a better job. No complaints from me!
I like that rule! Sure, we can ***** and moan about it, but be honest now, who in their right mind would be willing to volunteer for this?

I'm interested to see the new date, since I'm hoping to be involved with a massive computer project at work, that goes live on July 12th. That would not be a good time for any of the key personnel to be on vacation.

Who wants to take a bet this date for your project will slide?

Good to know. Wouldn't wanna be slippin' 'n slidin' on all of the rear gear lube now, would we. ;)
twowheelnut and Warchild: I'm with ShinyPartsUp, you guys crack me up! Tim, I split a gut laughing at "Wouldn't wanna be slippin' 'n slidin' on all of the rear gear lube now, would we. ;) I've been riding Beemers for so many years and for so many miles, that if you are saturated with the BMW Kool-Aide like I am, you'd better laugh at this final drive fiasco or else you'll be crying your eyes out! All of my BMW's going back to 1969 have had certain small "Achilles Heel's"; but they have usually been small issues such as the Type 247's and their faulty diode boards. No big deal, just carry along another board!

But the BMW factory has a real tiger by the tail with both the 17 and 19 ball bearing final drive units failing; they better fix it!

Yes Dale, I knew you were referring to the Oregon bound train from the East. But, I tell you what! When I rode up to the Redmond MOA Rally and heard from conversations at the Beer Tent what a great time We Old Beemer Geezers were having in the Bar Car heading West I almost joined them heading back East. Whiskey drinking, cigar smoking, joke telling, card playing, dice throwing and bench racing for two straight days on the train for The Yankee Beemers. Sounded Real Fun!

I will be at NAFO no matter what weekend you fine folks pick! I had such a great time at WFO-6 in Park City and Southwest FOG before that in New Mexico that I can't wait to ride and party with the FJR crowd again! If the luck of the draw brings me both rallies on consecutive weekends: Then this Old Irishman will fully exceed his regular quota of Bushmill's and Guinness!

Well, when you put it that way... yes, it does sound like fun. B)
