I just got my No-Mar tire changer in the group buy, and now I need to drill some holes in the garage floor for it. I've never done anything like this before, and I don't think my bowstring and a pencil is going to do the trick. A friend of mine used to be a contractor and he suggests a hammer drill and a masonry bit. The No-Mar instructions suggest 1/2" lag anchors, which need a 3/4" bit to install.
So I head down to the tool rental place and ask for "a hammer drill and a 3/4" masonry bit" and the guy pulls down this big hunk of machinery and a bit with which you could put several eyes out at once. A Bosch 11241-EVS, to be precise. The thing's so big, it treats my Givi E45 like it was a custom tool box. It looks like something out of HALO 3.
I bring it home, and it goes through nearly 5" of concrete in less than a minute, and it takes about 20 minutes to drill 4 holes, vacuum out the dust, install the anchors and bolt down the tire changer. The total rental was $15 because I used it for less than 2 hours. I looked on Google, and it looks like one of those goes for about $450 and lists for over $1000. Daaaamn!
THAT was a blast. That was so damn much fun I wished I had other large chunks of concrete to drill through.
