Drive Shaft Lubrication - Krytox?

Sometime in the next few weeks I'll be replacing the tires on my '07 and I'm going to follow the recommended advice about pulling the drive shaft and re-lubricating it. Moly 60 seems to be a preferred grease to use but I'm thinking about using another product called Dupont XHT-AC, also known as Krytox. It's a high performance grease with excellent high temperature and shear resistance properties. It's as expensive as hell though.

I'm wondering if anyone on the forum has tried it and might be able to give me some feedback?

Special grease is not necessary for the driveshaft connection at the U-joint. Nothing much going on there. Just put a bit of grease on this splined interface to keep moisture out and stop rust from forming. You might want to take it apart someday.

+1. The splines ain't that big a deal. This joint is subject to only the tiniest bit of axial movement, if even that. Don't blow wads of cash on it.

I wondered about Dupont's Krytox wheel bearing grease also.

I bought the Krytox after reading about on the forum. IIRC it was about $50 for a two ounce tube shipped from McMaster-Carr. I did the shaft and the rear wheel drive. Only put on 700 miles since. Other than the extra 40 horsepower and 125 mpg, I haven't noticed any difference. I plan on taking it apart in a year just to see what it looks like (back tire's looking a little ragged, so probably sooner). The stuff is bright white, so any dirt will show up. I used it sparingly, applied with a Qtip on every spline. Can't say if it's worth the money, but it makes for a good story when people are bitching about the price of things. Although I did scratch myself when it was on my hands and my wee-wee grew two inches........................(and no Barb, you can't see :exhappysmiley: )

Hey now. It may be small but it sure is short. I can give her ten inches and make it hurt. All I have to do, is do it five times and hit her with a brick.
