Sometime in the next few weeks I'll be replacing the tires on my '07 and I'm going to follow the recommended advice about pulling the drive shaft and re-lubricating it. Moly 60 seems to be a preferred grease to use but I'm thinking about using another product called Dupont XHT-AC, also known as Krytox. It's a high performance grease with excellent high temperature and shear resistance properties. It's as expensive as hell though.

I'm wondering if anyone on the forum has tried it and might be able to give me some feedback?

I came across Krytox on Mark Lawrence's web site. Here's the link:

Special grease is not necessary for the driveshaft connection at the U-joint. Nothing much going on there. Just put a bit of grease on this splined interface to keep moisture out and stop rust from forming. You might want to take it apart someday.

Overdoing maintenance is the bane of man.

Pssssst.................
It's Kryptonite you want!

(But don't tell anybody else)
Why ya gotta be an ass?? Hmmm? Don't listen to zippy here.

This is the ****...really

+1. The splines ain't that big a deal. This joint is subject to only the tiniest bit of axial movement, if even that. Don't blow wads of cash on it.

Anybody else kinda throw up a little in their mouth when Bust makes a post and then DCarver immediately follows right up with "blow wads"?

Don't bother me.....I'm pullin' a head! :yahoo:

Hey *******! Quit pullin that thing.. ya pulled yer brain out. That wasn't carver :dribble:

****...it was the wrong 'D', as in Disney, as in Walt, not 'D' as in Dorkboy, as in Don.

I bought the Krytox after reading about on the forum. IIRC it was about $50 for a two ounce tube shipped from McMaster-Carr. I did the shaft and the rear wheel drive. Only put on 700 miles since. Other than the extra 40 horsepower and 125 mpg, I haven't noticed any difference. I plan on taking it apart in a year just to see what it looks like (back tire's looking a little ragged, so probably sooner). The stuff is bright white, so any dirt will show up. I used it sparingly, applied with a Qtip on every spline. Can't say if it's worth the money, but it makes for a good story when people are bitching about the price of things. Although I did scratch myself when it was on my hands and my wee-wee grew two inches........................(and no Barb, you can't see :exhappysmiley: )

OK, see, now we're talking about something that's worth some money.

Signed, DCarver :glare:

P.S. RH is probably passed out by now, so who's got what to say about him????

(As if him being around would stop anybody!)
