Dropped a nut...

So tonight I was working to get my Fuzeblock installed and also a power lead for my Garmin before I head up to Huntsville on Thursday. While removing Panel D over the battery, the spring nut fell off the tab where C, D and the outer fairing all meet. It dropped into the bowels of the cowling. I don't have a magnet thingy to go fishing for it, but I did try with one of those flexible grapple tools (plunger with 4 little prongs on the far end?). It was too large to get anywhere that stupid nut might have fallen, and I couldn't even see anywhere down there anyway.

I know it's not a huge deal to ride without that one screw/nut, but it bugs me and I want to replace it (I'm not pulling all the front tupperware off just for that thing). I can/will order one, but I thought I'd ask if anyone heading to CFR might have an extra they could bring and I'll buy you a coupla beers or somethin'. Or pay cash. That works too. If not, as I said, I'll go ahead and order one, and probably some of those little push-pin things, since I noted a couple are missing.

At least the fuzeblock and power lead work! Now if the battery is still fully charged tomorrow morning, I'll feel better. Messing with the electrics on this bike makes me nervous, especially right before a road trip.

Local hardware store nut clips won't be metric, and I don't have any extra metric ones to share (or else I would.)

In the interim, you could "borrow" the nut clip that goes on the front most corner of panel b or c. Those aren't nearly as important as the one you lost that joins the three panels.

My ACE has all the metric nut clips you need or want. I just got one for my rear sway bar on my tubo car.

I love ACE. I had more stuff from them on my 05 Road Glide then Harley OEM. Well not really but ACE is deffenitly a go to for metric and SAE fasners of all kinds.

Well, as I was pulling that panel out, I heard something drop, seemingly right down alongside (outside) the battery compartment, so I'm pretty sure I know where it went. I just can't seem to see it/reach it without peeling off a lot of plastic. I was hoping I could get into the area from under the cowling alongside the right fork, but no such luck. If I wasn't heading for Huntsville in the morning I might take the time to get to know my disassembly procedures, but at this point, I think I'll try to source a replacement and/or wait until after I get back to go looking for the original.

It won't keep yer feejer from blowing apart at 100 mph... trust me.. KrZy8 has LOTS of loose parts. Ask Bust.

I bet it's between the outside fairing and that black part on the inside by the radiator. Take off the side fairing and turn it upside down. I bet it falls right out.

Well for now, a 4mm flange nut from Ace was taped to the tab on the D panel and I was able to get the bolt to bite into it enough to hold the panels. Not super tight, but it will hold for now, and I have three more if that one falls off! I bet Jason's right on where that little bugger ended up. That's about where I heard it fall. I'll familiarize myself with the fairing parts once I get home from CFR. Who knows what I'll find in there...maybe even Jimmy Hoffa!

Yea, except they don't care if it goes back together in the end. Likely they'll use hammers and crowbars to get it off...not altogether dissimilar to how I work in the garage however.

While I feel for the OP, it's just not that hard, nor does it take that long, to remove the lower fairings. Just do it.

I picked up an FJR nut clip on the side of the road in Burk's Falls, ON along Midlothian Road this past weekend.

Any chance that might have been yours?
