Yup. It happens to the best of 'em, and me too. At 600 miles and still getting accustomed to the center stand, I was parked in a gravel parking lot. Rocked the bike forward to come off stand, front wheel bit into the gravel, went left. Bike went right. Scratched up the fairing a little and the lower portion of the bag badly.

Was heartbroken. Since then I've compounded the scratches and multiple layers of wax. Added Moto frame slider (although they won't help much in gravel) and looking for the touch up paint to finished the job.

It's hard to see unless you really look, but for some reason I see it instantly every time I look at that side ...

Somehow I knew I was going to get some flack from the doggie doo. Thanks guys for the empathy. I was hoping to get some similar stories to make me feel better. You know misery loves company! After further inspection, I think that only the clear coat is scratched. I may try some rubbing compound to smooth out the imperfections. I ordered my R&G's last night, plan on drilling this weekend. Thanks for the levity guys, it did make me feel better. WC, I did try to load that funny NOS dog for my Avatar but it wouldn't accept it. I wll try again later.

You guys are too much, when I drop mine, I had tip over guard which bent, so I installed Moko sliders right after. No dog sh!t but felt also as bad ;)

Well, I haven't dropped this bike yet, and I credit you guys for that.

If I didn't read a sad story like this seemingly every coupla weeks somewhere on these boards, I probably wouldn't be so darn careful!

Still, it may happen someday.

Sorry to hear about yer misery, mo. :(

Ya probably know that many helmet liners can be removed for washing. "Febreeze" helps sometimes too. Good luck.

I second that! Some of these stories may have helped me because a few of them are things I haven't thought to be careful of. Hearing all the weird ways bikes fall has started me creating a mental checklist of places it's okay to park the bike. Latest add-on...avoid Dog ****...wait...Cheech and Chong taught me that...good thing we didn't step in it!!!

oh yea forgot to type in a total damage with tax and 150 bucks for the dealer to check the bike out $2600.00 bucks less my $500.00 deductible. wait the adjuster and the insurance copany told me that i can go ANYWHERE to get the bike repaired . so i see it this way 2600 less 500 = 2100 bucks call a dealer in nort dakota and can get the parts for $900.00 . now i need to see what price the dealer can do the labor for being he up the prices for the parts and the labor so i would not have to shell out the $500 deductible. And remember i was going ZERO miles an hour for this much damage . will post when i see the CHECK .

Wow...that gravel on the ground that your foot went into is expensive. Sorry to hear about how expensive that is...ouch!

I have rented a few Harleys to see if they were for me and I rented an electra glide when I was in Colorado as my brother-n-law has a soft tail and I wanted to go riding with him through Moab. That sucker is like driving a golf cart, besides it having no power with my wife and I on it it must have been near 1500lbs. Many of the stops along side the road in Utah are nothing but gravel. Luckily I never dropped it but the slightest lean on that thing and it took everything I had to keep it up. That is not what I call fun. This FJR is as light as Lance Armstrong bike compared to that Harley. :D

Not bashing just stating the facts...

Sorry to hear about the drop,,

it does happen,,,

but the dog **** in your helmet,, is that some prospect ritual??

paint is stellar blue pearl metallic '98 toyota 8L7 just had my local paint shop mix up a 1/2 pint for me,, the touch up paint that is offered by colorite is useless,, duplicolor is close but very small amount for mucho dinero,, I got a Preval spray gun www.prevalspraygun.com, 1500 to wet sand , and some polishing compound all for $28 bucks,,,, but never got to use it....

mine is now in the shop being repaired from some *** wipe that knocked it over in a parking lot and took off,,,
