I am telling you. You will love riding in Utah. Not only are there some great roads but the scenery man, the scenery is something else!

it is really worth the ride to get there.

This will get you started.

When planning your route in or out try to incorporate some of Southern UT. Canyon Lands, Moab, Lake Powell just spectacular

+1 on Moab. I came through there for the first time on the way home from WFO-5. It's just spectacular.

Since it will be the same time of year, I'd recommend that anyone who doesn't have a TuffRhino Mira-Cool Cooling Vest, or the equivalent, should get one to go under their riding gear. <==== That's me to the left, charging mine up in Lake Tahoe in the middle of a 100F ride.

On the way back home from WFO, Pending and I rode down into Glen Canyon and Lake Powell and took the ferry across the lake. The trip is only about 15 - 20 minutes, and you have to drive on sand to get to the ferry, but it was easy and fun. Lucky for us it was only 111 degrees that day. The ferry isn't anything spectacular, but the ride in and out of the recreation area was like riding on Mars. And the roads are SUPER.

There is only one ferry operating across the lake these days, so it only traverses the lake every two hours (on the hour each direction). Some planning may be required so that you don't have to stand out in the baking sun waiting for the boat. It's something different to do, and the roads out that way are fantastic. Hydration and cooling equipment highly recommmeded.

I think we could have ridden a few days down in that area. It IS terrific, and well worth the effort to ride the southern part of the state. 14 out of Cedar City is very cool. Bryce is phenomenal.

This year, we'll try to pick up all the places we bypassed last year. And there is a TON to see!

I was there in September and though boiling in the lower elevations, it was quite pleasant in the canyons. High 80's IIR, and dry. In any event, the scenery and roads will smite any ill feelings from the heat and there are plenty of streams to jump into to, um, Ari-ate.

Hey, we came within a gnat's c-hair of not signing and woulda had to start all over again.[/img]
Indeed, very few of y'all know just how close we came to having to actually look for another facility.

Being on the pointy end of the spear for these large Gatherings is a huge, HUGE undertaking, and we all owe the Rallymaster a serious round of applause for the countless hours spent negotiating and re-negotiating with Marriott Sales Office. Sadly enough, this is just the beginning; we still have a massive amount of work to do to make this event successful.

Looking forward to a safe WFO. Great to hear the progress!

We'll be able to pound down at the Marriott, no problamo. The liquor laws in Utah may read kinda strange, but I have found in actual practice, they don't really impact anything. Maybe Cdogman or Go Far can elaborate further, since they live there.

I was co-rallymaster of the very first ST1100 Western Gathering waaaaaay back in 1996, and we also used Park City for the venue (a different motel, however). Nobody had any problems hoisting glass after glass there, as I recall.

The Utah 1088 has been held in two different Salt Lake City hotels over the years, and trust me, nobody has any issues getting ****-faced after the Awards Banquet...

That's not entirely true. I had an issue getting ****-faced after the Awards Banquet last year.... of course I had to get going on my 800+ mile ride home....

Seriously, drinking and getting ****-faced at WFO will probably be a big non-issue if you drink at the hotel. If you go wandering off to a strip club or a night club or seal clubbing, you may have to pay for a 'club membership.'

I dunno why anyone would want to leave during the evening drinking exercises. Should be plenty of "free entertainment" right there around the bikes....
