The 1-3/4 hour movie/documentary follows racers competing in the Baja 1000. Highly recommend if you haven't seen it. Lots of fantastic adrenaline packed footage, including a great overhead scene shot from a helicopter involving 2 dirt bikes racing at 110mph right on the shoreline. Cool stuff for sure.

The Baja 1000 looks like an awesome event to be involved in. B)

Hey skyway

....Yep, this is a staple here at renojohn's abode. pretty has been etched in pictre tube from so many viewings LOL

I kinda figured the FJR guys were a bunch of street ******* and not into this stuff -you've given me hope LOL

A must have for anyone. Two-thumbs up.

PS: Remember Coco's corner in the movie? Here is a pic of me with Coco ( I'm the one with two real legs). Lots of baja legends have come through coco's corner. It is in the middle of nowhere and coco is quite the interesting character himself. A google search will bring you hours of interesting history.

..last year with the strom in Baja.

Anyway, if you don't have the movie ...go get it.

Much better than those drama filled brokeback riders whining about KTM not giving their movie star butts free bikes. This is the real deal.

I'm not sure if it's the same thing, but I think they've been showing it on Discovery HD... pretty cool stuff. I can't imagine riding a dirt bike that fast across the desert in the dark.

Do you guys get much coverage of the Dakar? A race across Africa held every January for all concievable modes of transport. Bikes, trucks, cars, quads, desert buggies. A bit like wacky races on LSD. 15 days average 700 Km per day (450 miles) every mile of it through desert. 4am start & most dont get into the next camp until 6-9pm. The works riders have a team who travel on the roads to the next stopping place and sort the bike over night, the privateers have to do it before they cram some food in and crash out ready for the next 4am start.

Charlie Boorman did it last year (The guy who was whining about not getting his free KTM) He came off, broke one wrist and dislocated the other thumb, then completed the stage before having to retire from the race. He did 60 miles in that condition across rough desert.

Very cool RenoJohn. If I was a fast desert rider, I'd be all over the Baja 1000, looks like wicked fun. :dribble:

Yes, the Dakar is covered pretty well on one channel. The Baja is similar in many ways, except its 1000 miles all rolled into 24 hrs.

Like mentioned we get some coverage of it on one cable channel. Unfortunately it doesn't get exposure to the masses as many of us feel it should. It too is a an amazing race. KTM sure dominated this year, wow.

So howz come they don't have an IBA plate then?
LOL, Don, got some friends running it ....perhaps you'd sponsor them via some CBA plate holders? LOL.

It seems that only a few brave souls actually ride the whole 1K miles, most motorcycle entrants are made up of teams that switch out during the race.

been following the baja 1000 for many decades. to have a movie that gives the visuals to the desciptions was excellent. when i first saw DtG (about a year ago) the first thing that blew my mind was how FAST they rode on unrestricted (public access) dirt! i'd seen the numbers but that's not the same impact as seeing someone doing 120mph in the dead of night with nothing more than their aux lighting ... on f'ing DIRT!

Sounds insane, is there any footage on you tube?

Fottage? Is that an English pudding or something? :)

buy the dvd. it's cheap and if they make a little cash on it other producers might sit up and notice.

I don't know if any of you are aware of this, but the producer's father is Bruce Brown, maker of the the holy grail of motorcycle movies...."On Any Sunday".

I was on the first run of pre orders for DtG. Almost as painful as waiting for my FJR. :dribble:

Quote from the Oxford English dictionary. Fottage: to fot; to type fast with 2 fingers; fottage when typing a double letter, to press the wrong f*****g key twice :p

And while I am on it I found 2 others you might like to try:

I'm sure there are more....thin ice mate, thin ice!

I saw that last Saturday night. After I went blasting through the country on my (little) dual sport. Now I want a BIG dual sport! I couldn't sleep. I was glued to the tube, and then jazzed all the next day. Incredible what those participants do. The footage was spectacular, and the riding was unbelievable. Get it! Watch it!!

Okay, I'll try... I'm sure others are getting tyred of this so I'll stop now...

This might sound completely off the wall, but is anyone interested in forming a team and actually running this race? I'll wager that being a participant would be way more fun than standing by as a spectator. I really like the idea of doing it on 2 wheels, but a pick-up truck entry could be a lot of fun as well?
