Not to hijack this thread,but... Does anyone know if the YCCS module is flash programmable? I'm getting an 08 in the morning. Woohoo!! :yahoo: Wondering if the 09 re-map can be installed easily,or if it would be a hardware change.

I figure before we get ready to go to the airport, I will throw my 2 cents in about the AE!

When it works, you will love it!

When you start getting SHFT__## codes that leave you stranded, ____!

My AE worked flawlessly for 18 months before it started developing intermittent problems.

I still cannot tell you if the problem was the AE or something else (like in the wiring harness).

All I can say is that if you have a problem and Yamaha can't fix it the first time, you better be VERY PATIENT!

So, in final words, as long as you don't have any SHFT_## problems, you will LOVE IT!

Yamaha builds a fine bike - now if only the engineers ran the customer service and dealers    !

Best regards,

Shane

This is the only question that splits this forum up! We all like the bike as a whole but do differ on the clutch thing. Clutch for me! :assassin:

That is very true. It all comes down to choice and in my case I liked the 2008 color of the AE better. However like it or not bikes are moving in that direction with 2 new gearboxes in as many years , the DN-01 type and the other on the VFR for 2010 from Honda. I guess I did not look at it as all that new of a technology. New to bikes perhaps but look at the F1 gearbox , shifting and how widespread it is used. I do not think the issues most people are having is due to just gearbox or bad switches. It is more to do with every increasing technology , computers and the resulting dependance on good connections , and proper voltage regulation. All increase complexity and decrease reliability. I hated the move to FI from carbs for that reason. However after years of use they have become standard for the most part and very reliable.

Let me expound on my position: It's not that I think there is anything wrong with having an auto-shifter. As a concept, I am completely comfortabkle with having the bike do the clutching for me. It's only in the current implementation that I have concerns.

And then there is the whole complexity for its own sake issue. I will always choose simple elegance over complex wow factor when offered the choice.

Most of the technology / repair problems of the YCCS have revolved around the fact that the dealers, as it is such new technology, can't seem to figure them out. That is obviously to be avoided.

But if I was faced with riding a YCCS bike or not riding (for whatever reason) the choice would be a no-brainer. YCCS good. Not riding BAD!

I found a smoking deal on a brand new 08' electric shift. I have a friend that sells bikes and he just sold a used electric shift and he told me that he hated it. He said a bike without a clutch lever just didn't seem right. I've been riding street bikes since I was 16, I'm now 43, and I still have a sportbike. I got this bike to take the wife out on occasion and for some overnight trips. Should I just try to find a standard shift, or should I get the electric shift. I'm afraid I'll drive it away from the dealer and not want it. I put earnest money down to hold the bike. It's supposed to be in later this week or next week. My friend got me doubting my choice. The only reason I went for it was the super discounted price. I can't even find a standard shift for what I'm paying. The AE retails for $1800 more than the standard. I didn't really look for an AE, that's just the only FJR they were getting in.
Has anyone gone from standard to electric shift and regretted it? Let me know your opinions.

I've got the the std.05 ABS but if my dealer ever gets an AE on trade I'm 1st in line. I like the no clutch lever thing and it shifts great with just the foot shifter.
