What shop?
Ride Now off Thunderbird and the 101.

Jeebus Krispies..... never, ever take your bike to a Ride Now shop!

NEVER, EVER!!!

The horror stories the guys in the southwest can tell you about Ride Now will make you run screaming into the night.

You might as well let the bike burn to the ground, before giving it to *any* Ride Now shop. In fact, them having worked on electrical stuff on your machine, I am surprised your bike isn't burnt to the ground already. :(

Good luck, mang.... if you can extract your bike safely, you would be well ahead of the game.

Does he need vaseline...or is it already too late for that?
Whatever happened to the Kinder and Gentler wheatonFJR? This newer version of Wheatie appears to be RadioHowie's Evil Apprentice!

I'd be hard pressed o pay them $600 bucks. They haven't fixed anything.

They gave you an estimate when they "diagnosed" the relay. It appears that was incorrect, all bets are off.

I don't know this shop(s) - don't think they are down my way - but if Beemerdons, ScooterG, and now Warchild say stay away from them, I'm staying the **** away from 'em!

Good to know if I ever have problems when I'm out there!

I gulped at the 4hrs for $600...geez...guess I need to keep counting my "good ole boy out in the MS piney woods" blessings shop that went up last spring from $50hr to $65hr

Amen to that!! I'm super happy to have a truly honest mechanic that only charges $50/hr. Phew!!!

Well, they found the problem. ECU shorted out. So need a new ECU.

/cry
Ouch! Are they SURE?

And who shorted out the ECU????? How could you have done that? I would suspect THEY did it. Are they making YOU pay for it?

And doesn't the AE have a 'shift ECU' that is separate? Which ECU is the bad one?

This 'Bad ECU' diagnosis isn't passing my sniff test. I've never heard of that before. How does the ECU get 'shorted out' from just normal usage? Something here ain't right.

+1, Gunny; SkooterG is 100% right on this one, networkguy I truly believe that THEY ****** up your ECU and something is rotten with Ride Now - they can't be trusted!

Sounds like all the AZ guys need to get together and take a little road trip over to the dealer and have a chat with the service manager. They would have more FJRs in the driveway than on the sales floor. Of course, this would have to be followed by a ride and a big lunch in Prescott. :)

Well, initially they were blaming either the hyperlights or the cruise control. I tried explaining the hyperlights have nothing to do with the ECU, and the cruise has been working fine for 20 months. I think I will go over tomorrow and talk with the service mgr. I cant today as Im working a 12 hour shift.

edit: just found THIS thread...looks like the ECU was recalled. Affects 2006-2009 A/AE models. Im calling the dealer as soon as they open. Need to find the recall number first...

edit 2: found it. M2009-002R.

This is starting to sound like you guys need to mount a rescue mission!

1. $600 for work they can't complete?

2. Asking you to pay for an ECU that's on recall?

3. Are you going to be able to trust that bike when they give it back and tell you it's fixed?

Run away, RUN AWAY NOW!

OK I was mistaken. That recall was not for the ECU...it was for the ignition switch, which was done in 09. So Im back to a bad ECU.

I understand the sentiment about how they screwed it up...but lets say for a moment the new ECU fixes the problem. How can I possibly argue it was their fault? I brought it in with a problem, therefore, if it IS the ECU, it was under my control when it failed.

I dunno. I had another issue when I first got the bike that required them to completely replace the clutch assembly...under warranty of course., Im starting to think maybe I just got a bad one. Im going to think about possibly trading it in for a G3 and this time make sure I get a 3 year YES warranty.

The four year Y.E.S. warranty is definitely a good idea. Especially with something like the 'AE'. And you are right, you are screwed. Your problem could well have had nothing to do with the ECU but since that is what they are telling you then that is what you are stuck with. I don't trust those dealerships in the least. I would not put it past them to outright lie to make some money, or to cover up on of their own mistakes.

This is assuming they truly have fixed it.

The thing is, I would NEVER trust anything that dealership has to say.

Either way, unfortunately you get to pay to play so to speak. In the future, I highly recommend taking it somewhere else.

I wouldn't let a bad shop make a change in bike neccessary...but your choice.

Sounds like you need a second opinion before work is performed. :clapping:

I guess we'll see when the new ECU arrives and is installed. In 5-7 days.

Im really considering chalking this whole thing down to 1. Bad bike (again based on previous issues), 2. Stupidity on my part for not getting YES, 3. unwittingly taking it where I did for service (again, based on previous experience I havent had issues with these guys), 4. not knowing about the Casa Grande shop beforehand. I think I may eat the depreciation loss when all is said and done and get a G3, with a YES warranty, and use a different shop next time.
