Wow.

networkguy - bummer. I hope you get it worked out. I feel your pain - I had an intermittent electrical problem way back in the day when I had an '83-ish Nighthawk. Turned out to be a flaky ignition module.

Don - good on ya for the offer to transport the bike.

And thanks for the heads-up on the Ride Now shops. Like fljab, I'll keep that in mind when I finally make it to that area if'n I have a problem.

EDIT to add: ya know, extrememarine has a nerfed up FJR in his garage that he's parting out. If it's not too late to tell the shop to hold off and get your own parts...

You know, Ive thought about that. But to be honest, my thinking says...lets say I get the bike home, and get an ECU somewhere else. I'll need to bribe someone most likely to install it for me (Im not super wrenchy :( ) and then...what if that doesnt fix it? Then what? I think Ive resigned this entire thing as a loss on my part (see post above) and at this point I just want it running so I can trade it for a '13. This isnt the first issue Ive had with this bike, and I just want to take the loss and stop the bleeding. I dont have the patience, nor the skill, to have a half taken apart bike in my garage trying to figure out whats wrong.

Make sense?

Yes. But I could have hepled you out with a simple ECU swap.

But it sounds like you are emotionally divested from this bike. Mi comprende. I've been there.

I think I am at this point too. /sigh

This shop is a Yamaha Dealer?

Trade out of it as it sits, leave it with them and ride away on your new Gen 3. Get the 1st service done at a trusted shop ;)

This allows them to eat their past / future screw ups, and you get what you really want!

None on the floor as of yet...

I totally disagree. Your scenario allows the shop to make money on this poor fool again. And I guarantee they WILL make a ridiculous amount of money. They are not known to be fair priced.

networkguy - GO TO CASA GRANDE!!! Tell Kendall I sent you. You may not get it right away, but you will get a fair deal and excellent follow-up service for the life of the bike. It is the ONLY dealer I will take my FJR to. No matter how far away I am.

Are you guys talking about Adrenaline Motorsports in Casa Grande? Service mgr is Luke? Just got off the phone with him, was a little surprised I needed an ECU. I explained the whole story to him, and he said if they spent time on the phone with Yamaha and thats what they diagnosed, then thats probably correct. His quote for an ECU was the same price. No matter how I look at it, Im into it for alot of $$$. ECU's arent cheap.

Blech. I just want my bike back.

I know how that goes.

That's why I help to organize Tech Days at Bust's place. That way, some very kind and generous retired Canadians work on my bike for me. I learn a thing or two and generally provide comedic relief from time to time.

And drink Bust's beer.

Aren't there any Phoenix area Tech Days?

SkooterG should organize one. :clapping:

;)

Appreciate that man. I'll talk to you about it at the meet tomorrow night.

Well...guess what guys.

IT WAS THE ******* BATTERY!!!!! Jesus H Christ. I told them (by advice from you guys and kaitsdad) PUT ON A NEW BATTERY AND TEST IT! 2 weeks ago! Apperently they never did.

They got the new ECU in, installed it, and same issue lol. Finally. FINALLY. They put on a new battery and they said its started 15 times in a row no issues.

I know some day I'll look back and laugh at this. I know it. Im kinda laughing now lol.

It still has not dettered me from trading it in for a '13. At this point Im, as scooterG put it, emotionally detached from this thing. So I should get it back tomorrow or Monday.

****** A. Well, good news for my checkbook lol.

Well, if you care about your pocketbook...I would wait and take a good long ride on your FJR! You may just fall in love with it again!

If it was just the battery...that stuff would happen on a Gen 1, 2, OR 3....
