There is a very real difference between that and exercising my skills and matching the speed, clutch and shifter myself.

Spike
Spike,

Your right!!

That's why the "AE" will be superior. It matches everything perfectly and does it in one tenth to two tenth of a second after the rider input to shift.

I doubt it can be done that fast and smoothly no matter how good a rider is with a manual system.

They don't use this shifting system on F1 cars because it is slow and inprecise.

In the end, EACH TO HIS OWN! :D

Yeah, straight from that site:

"ECU chooses optimal shift timing = more enjoyable riding"

Ahahaha! You're going to get a shift light!!!

In fact, all benefits listed on that site are related to comfort and less fatigue. Hey man, you want comfort, get a Wing.

Clutching is half the fun of riding! May I suggest just trading your FJR in on a scooter and being done with it?
Hey Butch, where were you to back me on the other thread!?!

Heh heh. What a funny thread. It's interesting to see people get all puffy chested about shifting a fricken motorcycle. :D

I think the button shifting is kick ass and perhaps I'll own one some day. I think it will sell well in Europe. Obviously it won't do too well in North America.

The FJR is a bike to go places on so why not have a model that takes some of the hassle out of shifting? Some people get into clutching through the gears and some don't. Now there are two excellent models to choose from.

Huh?

Why not take the hassle out of that whole balance thing and get a trike? Why not eliminate that pesky wind all around thing and put a bubble around it? Why not shed yourself of all that troublesome gear and bolt a roll cage on the bike?

Aren't we getting a tad soft here, guys?

Yea, because shifting makes me so much more of a manly rider.

Why not live and let live and if you like what you got and the way you got it, then ride it. B)

Oh brother. :megashock:

You know, for someone who so strogly advocates the manly-man, total control divine motorcycle riding experience, you sure don't ride much. Maybe if you actually RODE that museum exhibit in your garage that you call an FJR your slick used-car salesman routine would carry some weight, but alas............

In reality, you don't spend much time on motorcylces it seems, so I am calling you out........

:asshat: pot stirrer!!!!! :haha:

:tease:

Dude, that's cold! :cold:

I can't help it if my wife has my balls in a vice! :brunette:

Sitting at this computer making fun of your scooter mini-bikes is all the fun I get to have!

Show a little compassion!

Tell you what.

IF, and that's a big IF, I can figure out a way to afford an 06 AE - oops, scooter mini-bike, as a 2nd bike, in addition to my 04 (cause it ain't going anywhere), then you will need to take a "several day business trip" to Arizona.

I'll have you racking up more miles in two or three days, than you have done all summer! And that will be in some beee - U - teee - ful riding country.

And yes, I will make you ride the scooter mini-bike! But only part of the time. ;)

XLR8, Don't be too sure about that. My bet is it will be "Kick -ss" here too! Hope you can get one! :D

BrunDog,

SkooterG has your number!

BrunDog.... Quit posting, get away from the computer and get that FJR out of the garage!! :D I was wondering why you don't ride much... Could it be that "squeezing the clutch" is hard on you? :p

Strangely enough, here in Europe I'd bet the prevalent feeling is exactly the opposite ;)

For decades automatic cars were seen as "an American thing", and 99% (ok, I'm pulling this number out of my own arse, take it with a grain of salt) of the cars were manuals. Most manufacturers didn't even offer automatics, even as an option, for the vast majority of its models. Only very recently, say, 5 or 6 years ago, with the advent of technologically advanced automatics (with 5, 6 or even 7 gears) it has begun to gain acceptance, but still the manuals outsell them by orders of magnitude. So, and even though we're not talking about an automatic here, by any stretch, I'd venture most of the European target audience would likely say "Nah, I'll pass, that's more of an American thing, isn't it?". Other europeans please chime in and tell me what a prick I am, now :p

That being said, I'm not sure what to make of it, I'd have to try one first to make up my mind. Maybe I'll love it, maybe I'll hate it. But I won't know until I ride it, so at this point all this commotion I see is just mental masturbation -- sure, it may feel good, but it doesn't accomplish anything. :D

Nah...it ain't his clutch hand that's hurtin'....

It's his PW'd ass! (based on HIS earlier remarks) :haha:

I have to agree with brundog on this...if you want an automatic...get a buick. :argue: :argue:

How many times or posts does it take to get it across that it "ISN"T AN AUTOMATIC"

I hope the AE model does good myself. I think the technology is there to make it a success. Though I will have to stick with my old blue dog 05 non abs for a couple of more years. I mean it only has 11,300 barely broke in. Good luck with the paste and stick thread. :D

The V-8 Boss Hoss also has a reverse gear (since one person can't push the thing) and weighs in at over half a ton. You need three football players to get it back up if you drop it. It is a mutant of a bike IMO for guys with cheese for brains.
