Hm...not impressed here. Where's the weather radar scope? The antenna can easily be mounted on the nose of the scoot....what gives?

Tony,thanks for the response. I realize now from looking at your first picture that you've got the clutchless version with associated electonics.

One follow up question....

No electronic or engine noise interference??? So standard audio mini plug wiring is ok? No electronic filters or such needed for you so far?

Nice work. I'm doing a similar install with a garmin 2730 (for gps audio, xm and audio books) and escort with autocom. Garmin and escort are on handlebar mounts (techmount and gadgetguy). My question relates to autocom placement and wiring.

1.Did you locate autocom under seat or somewhere else?

2. I've sent up a relay activited hot power block under the front left side of fairing for power to accessories and intend to run autocom off rear running light. Ground back to another power block wired directly to battery ground for the escort and garmin. Sound about right to you or did you go another way?

3. Audio cables to autocom. any interference from engine or electronics? Did you run them outside of gas tank or directly over engine underneath tank?

4. Did you have to use any modified audio cords (i.e., filters, ground loop isolators, etc)?

I mounted the Autocom on top of the ECU for the /clutch/shifter. I will post additional pictures showing it. I put my relay in the rear and built a harness using standard bullet style connectors to plug everything in. I ran the audio wires directly over the engine heat cover.

I did not use any isolated cords at all. There is a very slight hint of alternator whine when sitting still, but as soon as you are moving you can't hear it at all. One note: It will require a isolated cord for an Escort or Bel-tronics detector in order to hear it. I am using the Escort Solo S2 and in the battery mode it works flawlessly. I had a bright idea to go ahead and wire a rj11 jack with power to run the S2 off bike power, but as soon as you plug it in the audio goes away. Strange at best!

I have been using it now for almost a year, and I gotta tell ya, I don't know how I rode without it for all those years. I was in Colorado last week and afternoon storms were popping up everywhere and it allowed me to re-route around the bad cells.

Tony, I get a bit of alternator noise out of my Pro AVI as well at idle. I think a simple 1mfd capacitor accros the power leads would be enough to fix it, but I haven't tried one yet.

If your radar detector volume goes down when you power the unit off the bike, that is a good indication that you have a ground loop. A simple isolator on the audio output of the radar detector before it goes into the Autocom would probably fix it.

Maybe I'm too simplistic, but I think that's way too much crap. Get on it and twist the throttle...come what may. If you want a Navigation / DVD / IPOD / Bluetooth / Autopilot / Cruise Control / Hand Warmer / *** Warmer / Foot Massage / Blah, Blah, Blah equipped vehicle stick to a cage.

The best information comes from beyond the windscreen. I can't understand the need for all that stuff. :blink:

That is an very impressive array of gadgets.

I had a similar setup on Zed at one time, XM radio, Valentine-One, Garmin Quest, and Bluetooth Headset in helmet for Cell phone.

It's all great for Iron-Butt's and long trips. Especially the GPS and of course music (and the comedy channel), nothing melts away dull slab miles like that.

I went to the nth extreeme.

But I did find dealing with all of that crap a pain in the *** after a while. Every stop, every night taking it off, worrying about it getting lifted. Connectors corroding.

And yes, there are distractions that come with it too. I eventually pulled it all off. Decided, I didn't want anyone to call me on the bike, didn't want to talk to anyone either. Screw that.

I've swung back to the other extreeme, and pulled it all off the bike.

I'm sure I will probalbly balance back somewhere in the middle here, with just the gps re-mounted, and my iPod for mile crunching.

But yeah, making it your own is what it's all about. No doubt about that.

Personally, I draw the line at integrating the cell phone into the intercom. I don't want to talk to folks on the phone while riding. I got enough distractions with just the GPS. I do use bike-to-bike FRS radios via the Autocom and find that a great way to communicate with a riding buddy for directions, gas stops etc.

Music is a must have for me when I travel. Sometimes I am on the bike for 20 days in a row and cover nearly 10K miles. I gotta have something to break up the monotony.

If all you do are 200 mile day rides, a GPS and Ipod/XM radio and Intercom are probably overkill. If you travel long distances in unfamiliar territory and sometimes over the international border, having road and weather information can save your butt.

I took some photos of the Autocom Pro AVI mounted vertically under the seat. It fits nicely where the tool kit was stored, although I run the seat in the low position. I am not sure if it would interfere with the bracket if it were moved the high position.
